Vinicius Pecanha

Welcome!

I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Health Policy Studies (IEPS). I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

My research lies in between Development Economics and Economics of Crime with an agenda on the impacts of place-based policies on crime.  First, I document that a policy designed to reduce the presence of drug traffickers in some neighborhoods have a positive impact on short-run education outcomes. My recent work focus on the medium-run impacts of this place-based policy on labor market and crime outcomes.  I'm also interested in how violence affects both the supply and demand for Health.

Another stream of my research discusses the impact of temperature shocks in neighborhoods within a city on mortality and which policies can mitigate these effects and the impact of pollution on birth outcomes and hospital admissions up to three years old in Canada.
