Video as a Learning Tool
Video is one of the most powerful tools available to teachers today. Whether in Math, Social Studies, English, or Science classrooms, it opens doors to new ways of learning by combining storytelling, visuals, and sound. Video can bring novels to life, make complex scientific processes easier to understand, and give students opportunities to connect with content in engaging and meaningful ways. On our site, we will explore and demonstrate how video, and specifically mobile videos can be used effectively in both Secondary English and Secondary Science classrooms. Each section highlights classroom strategies, examples, benefits, and resources that show how video enhances student learning.
MOBILE Video Learning
What makes mobile video learning particularly exciting is that it combines the accessibility of mobile technology with the engagement of visual media to create flexible, on-the-go learning experiences. By using smartphones or tablets, students can watch educational videos anytime and anywhere, turning small moments such as bus rides, class breaks, or lunch hour into opportunities to learn. This approach reflects how today’s learners naturally interact with digital content and allows education to move beyond the classroom, supporting personalized, self-paced, and inclusive learning for all.
Mobile learning allows students to access educational videos anytime and anywhere, giving them the freedom to learn beyond the classroom. Video content fits naturally into this model because it’s easy to stream, download, and rewatch, supporting self-paced and flexible learning. This accessibility helps remove barriers of time and location, making education more inclusive.
Students are already comfortable with video-based media on platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Bringing video learning into mobile education taps into this familiarity, increasing motivation and engagement. Short, focused videos align with how students naturally consume content and support better attention and retention through microlearning.
Mobile video learning supports different learning styles and needs by allowing students to pause, rewind, or revisit lessons as needed. It also promotes equity, as learners can access high-quality content regardless of their location or school resources. In this way, mobile video learning personalizes education while increasing access for all.

About Us:
Hi! My name's Megan and I'm a Secondary English teacher in West Vancouver. I am currently in my third year of teaching and have the opportunity to work with students in English Studies 8, 9, 11, and 12. Throughout these courses, I integrate video as a way to make literature and language more accessible and engaging for students. By blending traditional teaching with video-based learning, I find that students are more motivated to participate in discussions, more confident in analyzing complex ideas, and better able to connect what they are reading to real-world issues and perspectives.
Hello! My name is Nik and I teach Science in North Vancouver. I am grateful to teach and enjoy my hobbies in this beautiful environment. I've been using video-based learning since the beginning of my teaching career, but have a newfound appreciation for how effective it can be when used to its fullest potential.
