Back in May of this year I reported a bug to Malwarebytes by email about the Malwarebytes For Chrome browser extension conflicting with the Video DownloadHelper extension for Chrome, and this bug was confirmed by Malwarebytes after I reported it by email months ago.

I would like to report a possible bug with the Malwarebytes For Chrome browser extension (previous version and current version) where it seems to conflict with the Video DownloadHelper extension for Chrome ( -downloadhelper/lmjnegcaeklhafolokijcfjliaokphfk) so when you click to download a video with that extension the name in the Save As Box will be random numbers (example: 348546) instead of the name (example: Flying Cat Video) that is displayed in that extension before you click to save the video.

When I disable Malwarebytes For Chrome this problem goes away, but if I have it enabled then the problem returns so I either have to keep manually entering the title every time I want to save a video or I have to disable the Malwarebytes extension.

This problem is pretty annoying for me and has prevented me from using the Malwarebytes extension for long, I have to keep disabling it, and so I usually give up using it until the next version comes out hoping that it will be fixed.

Just a thought. I have had the browser extension on both Chrome and Firefox (quantum 64 bit) for a good while. All was well until the most recent update of Firefox (64.0). Since then Firefox will not close properly - and it also seems to worry over downloading (downloads not completing).

However, having tried a host of things. Removing the Malwarebytes Browser Extension seems to have fixed the problem. Though I would dearly liek to have the browser extension back doing its sentry duty.

I may have got a lucky download without the Malwarebytes Extension... without it stuff is going awry. I have been just been browsing around the internet. I seem to have an automatic update of several programs and extensions. I have spent some time going through each adding and taking away. I have it seems run into the problem - I uninstalled the extension and reinstalled the previous version. (This was the simple Remembear password manager).

@rakeshsejwal Hello, I am talking about a bug / conflict that only happens when I have the Malwarebytes Browser Extension installed when trying to download files (videos) with the Video DownloadHelper Extension, when there is a video that can be downloaded on a page by that extension it will list the name and you can download the video.

Normally the name of the video (example: Cat Video) that shows is the name that it will default to when you go to download it (you can change the name if you want before downloading it though if you do not use the quick download option) so in the Save File As Box the name will still say (example: Cat Video) before you click save, but when you have the Malwarebytes Browser Extension installed the name shows normally (example: Cat Video) until it is time to download it where the name in the Save File As Box will say (example: 1234283) instead of (example: Cat Video) so you have to manually adjust the name back to (example: Cat Video) before downloading it because the name will be different than the name that shows before clicking to download the video.

If you use the quick download option instead of the normal download option you will not be able to change the name before downloading, and so you will have to rename the downloaded file itself if you have the Malwarebytes Browser Extension installed.

This problem does not happen when I uninstall Malwarebytes Browser Extension, so far only the Malwarebytes Browser Extension seems to cause this problem when trying to download files with the Video DownloadHelper Extension.

So you are saying that this is a Google Chrome problem even though it only happens when I have the Malwarebytes Browser Extension installed when trying to download files with the Video DownloadHelper Extension?

I was told by email support to create an account here to post this question here where the developers would be more likely to see it, I did not want to do this because I do not like to create online accounts unless necessary (to reduce the amount of usernames and passwords that I have to remember, and to reduce the amount of things that I have to worry about getting hacked et cetera) and I wanted to just continue to handle it through email support like I did before when this bug was confirmed by Malwarebytes, but I followed their advice anyway and I created an account here again (I used to have an account here in the past) hoping that it would not be in vain.

Just an update, this issue still happens several years later in all the web browsers that I use (mostly Microsoft Edge & Brave Browser these days), this issue always causes me to uninstall Malwarebytes Browser Guard, and try it again later until it annoys me enough to uninstall it again.

Malwarebytes Browser Guard could be the best security extension in my opinion if: this problem gets fixed, if the ad-blocking was improved to the level of Ublock Origin (maybe you could fork it into your extension since it is open source) or Brave Browser's built-in ad-blocking (maybe you could fork this as well because they may also be using an open source approach) or Adguard (which Avira uses in their extension), and if there was a way to submit suspicious websites & false positives from the extension itself (like you can with Emsisoft Browser Security & web browsers like Microsoft Edge).

I was able to get to the bottom of this one. The bottom line is that this should be fixed in the next release. Because reality sometimes interferes with the best plans, here is more information. There are three issues at play here.

I installed all my favourite Firefox extensions including Video downloadhelper DownloadHelper - Media download Firefox extension

an extension that can download videos from Youtube and other video sites.

I do, however, find that is is a fussy extension. and is dependent on what is going on in other tabs. For example, if I have Facebook open in one tab, and youtube in another, I will not be able to capture youtube video until I close Firefox and restart it. This was also true under 11.2.

I also have the same problem ui vision is incompatible with various browser extensions in my case firefox because it detects that it controls the proxy going to conflict with other extensions for example with Urban vpn and also Video DownloadHelper and other proxy and vpn extensions

Waiting for a response from @admin

This bug is caused by the fact that ui vision controls the proxy function and the addons detect that the proxy is already controlled by another extension and they conflict. This bug also happens with Video DownloadHelper video downloader extension reporting a conflict with ui vision (firefox version)

This answer is not a duplicate of something already answered, since i'm asking specifically for regarding downloadhelper firefox extension, and a mysterious problem of audio only, specific to this clip.

Added-It seems the downloaded file does include Video(even though the 10min clip is only 20MB). It wasn't playing before, but it is now. I haven't re-downloaded it. Before it was just playing audio and displaying a blue screen with no text when I played it in VLC.

As Tog might be suspecting, if you are downloading the mp4, it might be just that you don't have certain video codec. You might use some free tool to check which codec is using that mp4 file and then download and install it. This can happen more often if you are using MS Media Player and have only default codecs installed. VLC player, which supports by itself a lot of formats and codecs, might be a good way to check if is this issue, you can just download here, it's free.

The AUR package uses the programs that are already installed in the system (ffmpeg video and audio converters) while the coapp supplied by the extensions web page brings their own set of tools with them.

Searching for a way to download web videos in the mp2t format for quite some time, I came across a Firefox plugin (add-on), named "HLS Downloader" (from HTTP Live Streaming), that finally could detect mp2t stream on a page and download it after choosing stream quality (in my case). The downloaded file has a "ts" extension and Media Player Classic plays it without complaining.

One of the first few requests is going to be a file that is not a video format. It has a list of all of the parts of the video. Download that.Picture of requests and response of the list3. Download all of the parts.I used a linux terminal just because that is where I am comfy. I'm sure you can do it in powershell too, I just don't live in Windows. When I downloaded the file it was randomly named 1703180577056 if you look at the headers of the file it will tell you that it is a m3u fileFile headersYou can append .m3u to this file and it will play on your windows station. However, I was not happy with the performance so I took it a bit further.

With the Download Helper plugin installed play the video, and when it detects video files to download click the arrow to the right of one of the segments it finds and click on the "info" option. Then just look for a really long string that ends with "mu38". Copy that string to the clipboard, open up VLC and use the "Convert/Save" from File, then use the "Network" tab. Paste the link that you copied into the textbox and click "Save". VLC will then stream the whole file down to your computer

Hi @Toni and @vknow360 Sunny, I have finally gotten the application to work, inspired by Toni blocks. Sunny's Customwebview and FileTools extensions should be used (thanks again for your great work). The storage permissions must be given manually...

zmaint DO NOT get the companion app (too much bloatware, sketchware) just get the download helper extension itself and use it in the browser.

It's OK; has a 50% success rate. youtube-dlin the terminal takes up the slack. 152ee80cbc
