Vida Mirk creates handmade jewelry art through an intuitive and experimental hand-carved process.
Influences are drawn from various sources: ecology, stemming from Vida's academic background, her heritage, looking at historical/traditional Balkan jewelry, and the sculptural arts.
Most importantly, her work builds off the historic notion that the miniaturization of intentional design allows for a meaningful and empowering connection between piece and wearer.
Pieces are made through the lost wax casting method and cast in .925 sterling silver. On occasion, more experimental casting methods are explored with other metals such as pewter or stainless steel. Lastly, some hand-carved sculptural projects are done in wood, clay, and different types of stone.
Vida Mirk is based in Tkaronto, the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat Peoples, and home to to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
