“Moor To Life”
JULY 2022 SHOW
Last summer, I displayed my art in several locations around Siasconset, Nantucket and the collection just about sold out!
From the Studio on Baxter Rd, to the 'Sconset Market to Marilyn Fahrman's dreamy garden, wonderful people stopped to chat and view the pieces in my collection, "Moor To Life."
ARTIST STATEMENT
“Moor To Life” offers a pause from the pressures of work to playfully wander in the moors and find fresh energy in the skies and colors of ‘Sconset.
I painted the collection for those who savor moments of rest & play. The collection showcases art from 3 years spent relearning how to unmoor myself from the driving agenda of ‘productivity’ and a fear of the unknown.
These paintings are especially meaningful to me as they were created during a time of both widespread and personal rupture. As I healed, my mind often returned to the unsettled land of the moors where I could find a sense of space without feeling lost; a place both familiar and still unknown.
To me, the Nantucket moors are grounding; they are a place to refresh my mind before coming back out and returning to busy life in town.
I often feel the need to constantly be working, but in recent years I have discovered that I deeply value both calm and also laughter. As such, my art gravitates towards these themes. I find calm in painting fresh landscapes in a loose, breezy, gentle style. My abstract works play with vibrant colors and textures, bringing to life the energy and fun of ‘Sconset — sunny beach days, flowering gardens, afternoon tennis, open-air dinners and the best of summer life.
I created these paintings to be a source of refreshment for anyone who also feels the pressure of ‘productivity’. In their own way, each painting encourages the viewer to take time to refocus in nature and enjoy the people and beauty and love around us.
