Hi! I'm Vic. I'm a semanticist based in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York. I specialist in formal semantics, specifically in the singulative/collective systems of Welsh and Arabic.
I am a member of the Formal Comparative Semantics and Syntax Lab, so make sure you check out my work there!
I am also very keen on outreach and public engagement. I have worked as part of the departmental outreach team and also as a research developer at the University of York training others in public engagement.
It's lovely to meet you all, so stay in touch!
I'm delighted to announce that I will be a Lecturer in Linguistics (maternity cover) at Queen Mary, University of London from September 2024 - December 2024!
I have been invited to present at the University of Manchester's Semantics Lab. Title and content to be confirmed - watch this space!
I have been invited to talk at this year's Pint of Science.
Come to The Winning Post, York, on 15th May 7pm to hear my talk: "Counting sheep, fruits and bloods: What is the interaction between perceptual and linguistic systems?". Find more details here.
I was recently on Danny Bate's podcast A Language I Love is...
I speak a little about its history, attitudes towards the Welsh language, and some really cool features that Welsh has (mutation, collectives/singulatives). I also talk about Welsh being a living language, deserving of respect. It’s not dying. It’s here to stay.
