VICTORIA GLOWACKA
Welcome! My name is Victoria Glowacka and I am currently in my 4th year as an undergraduate student at DePaul University in Chicago. I am pursuing a major in Psychology with a concentration in Human Services as well as a minor in Spanish language. From a very young age, I have always been told by family and friends that I have a naturally nurturing personality. As I got to spend more time around the children in my family, I quickly realized that I want to work with children for the rest of my life. In the future, I aspire to work in a school setting with young children as a school psychologist or social worker. As a daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation college student, attending elementary schoool knowing only a foreign language was difficult and made it challenging to feel at place and comfortable within the unfamiliar setting. Hence, I want to play a role in the lives of young students who also may feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable at first in their academic setting. I have a deep care for mental health and wish to help young individuals who may be struggling at the earliest stages of their life.
I have had diverse experiences when it comes to working with kids, and I continue to enjoy learning about ways to enhance their lives and futures. From previous psychology classes I have taken, I enjoyed learning about the way young children develop, the stages that they go through into their adolescence, and the ways that they behave in different situations. Last year, I was a part of the Cities Project where I had the opportunity to mentor a student. Throughout our sessions, we worked on coping with different stressful situations that may have been going on at home or in their community, set goals for their futures, and discussed healthy habits to improve our mental well-being. I also have experience with working with children with ASD, and will continue gaining experience throughout the rest of the academic year.
Aside from my passion for psychology, I have a passion for traveling and staying physically active. I am a strong believer that taking time off to move your body such as taking a walk outside, attending a yoga class, or even playing a sport with friends has a great influence on our well-being and should be something we learn to prioritize.
