Professional Experience

My professional experience spans fiscal policy, public finance, and applied economic research across the Mexican government, the central bank, and an international financial institution. Before beginning my doctoral studies, I worked at Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), where I held progressively senior positions in tax and fiscal policy. During my Ph.D., I continued engaging with policy institutions through research appointments at Banco de México and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Government Experience

Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP)

Mexico City, Mexico | 2018-2021

At Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, I worked on fiscal and tax policy and progressed from Sub-director to Director of the Tax Revenue Policy Division and subsequently to General Director for Fiscal Affairs in the Minister’s Office.

My work at SHCP provided direct experience with the design, analysis, and implementation of economic policy and continues to inform my research interests in public finance and applied economics.

Research at Policy Institutions

Inter-American Development Bank

Graduate Summer Intern
Washington, D.C. | 2024

As a Graduate Summer Intern at the Inter-American Development Bank, I worked on research projects on firm productivity in Latin America. In Venezuela, I studied the relationship between oil-related shocks and firm productivity; in Ecuador, I worked on a project involving public procurement and productivity. More recently, I have worked on research examining how natural resource shocks affect productivity and investment in Mexico.

Ph.D. Summer Research Program

I participated in Banco de México’s Ph.D. Summer Research Program, where I developed my project Tax Policy and Investment Behavior: Evidence from Mexico. Using corporate tax return data, the project examines how changes in tax policy affect firms’ investment decisions. The experience also led to ongoing research collaborations on the measurement of income inequality in Mexico.
