My Education: My undergraduate was in University of Toronto where I pursed an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree (major programs in Political Science and International Studies). I then completed my Montessori Elementary Diploma in the Canadian Montessori Teacher Education Institute and a Bachelor of Education Degree in University of Ottawa. Lastly, I earned a Post-Graduate Certificates for BC Teachers in Queen’s University (area of study: Special Education). And now I am very excited to start my fifth course in my Professional Master of Education at Queen’s University this Summer 2021.
My Professional Experiences: I have been teaching in a classroom for eight years now. I have worked as an assistant teacher at couple day care centres in Ontario, an elementary teacher at private schools in both Ontario and BC. I am currently working in a Montessori Kindergarten classroom at a public school in British Columbia, east of Vancouver. We have a variety of high needs students at our school. We also got an amazing team of EA, administrators, and support teachers. Therefore, this makes it a very rewarding experience.
Through my professional experiences, I have learned to have deep interpretations, highly respect students, influence students with positive outcomes, observe students’ learning processes and provide positive and informative feedback. My experiences have shaped my perspective of what it means to be an effective teacher. I have become more caring, respecting and understanding to the needs of my class. Considering each child as a unique learner has helped me gain a better understanding of their different learning styles. Each student has played a significant role in guiding the way that I approach the idea of a classroom which I believe should be a safe, positive, inclusive and age-appropriate environment for learning.
Planning, Instruction, and Assessment:
I believe that this course would help me to become a more successful teacher in the classroom. I am curious to learn about how we can modify our planning, instruction, and assessment in our classroom to align with Montessori curriculum. I hope PME 810 course will help me in planning, instruction and assessment in my Montessori Kindergarten classroom. I believe that PME 810 course will allow me to tie together education philosophies and curriculum design.
