Submission Guidelines
General Participation Guidelines:
Eligibility: The art contest is open to youth and young adults aged 13-24 residing in Hays County. Deadline Date April 2025. Final Date will be updated in January 2025 Art will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Space is limited due to display area at the library.
Categories: Participants may choose to submit their entries in one of the following categories:
Expressive Journeys: Artwork that depicts personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs in the journey of mental health recovery or exploration.
Inner Landscapes: Art that portrays the internal world of emotions, thoughts, and perceptions, offering insight into the complexities of the human mind.
Breaking Stigma: Artwork aimed at challenging stereotypes, misconceptions, and stigma surrounding mental health conditions through creative expression.
Healing Through Creativity: Artwork that showcases the therapeutic power of artistic expression in coping with mental health challenges and fostering resilience.
Community Connections: Pieces that explore the impact of mental health on communities, relationships, and collective well-being, promoting empathy and understanding.
You may choose the type of art for you would like to submit for the category you are interested in.
Visual Arts: This includes paintings, drawings, digital art, and other visual mediums.
Written Art/Form: Express your thoughts, feelings, and experiences through the power of poetry or other written work. Let your words paint vibrant pictures and evoke emotions.
Submission Limit: Each participant is welcome to submit one entry.
Originality: All submissions must be the original work of the participant. We celebrate individuality and creativity, so let your unique voice shine through in your art or written work.
Theme: Expressive Emotions for Positive Well-being. We believe in the transformative power of art to illuminate and uplift our emotional health. Through your submissions, we encourage you to explore and express a wide range of emotions, from joy and hope to resilience and introspection. Let your creativity serve as a beacon of light, inspiring others on their journey towards mental wellness.
Guidelines for Visual Arts:
Your artwork should convey a positive message related to emotional well-being and mental health.
Whether it's a colorful painting, a thought-provoking photograph, or a symbolic sculpture, let your imagination soar and your emotions flow freely onto the canvas.
Artwork should not exceed 18x24" if your artwork exceeds this you can submit a photo of the artwork. Art work must also be ready for display in frame that should not exceed 18x24.
Guidelines for Written Work:
Your written submissions should reflect personal experiences, feelings, or thoughts related to mental health and emotional well-being (500 words maximum).
Embrace the power of language to evoke emotions, provoke reflection, and inspire hope in your readers.
Whether you choose to write free verse, sonnets, haikus, or any other form of poetry, let your words dance with authenticity and sincerity.
All submissions will showcased Location TBD for May 2025.
Include a brief description or artist statement explaining the inspiration behind your submission and how it relates to the theme of emotional well-being.
