OVERVIEW

GPS Speedometer ("the app") is a speed, odometer, and trip-tracking app. This policy explains what data the app touches, why, and — since almost everything happens only on your phone — what actually never leaves it.

1. INFORMATION THE APP COLLECTS

Location data — The app reads your device's GPS position continuously while a screen showing speed, gauge, HUD, or map is open, and while a trip is being recorded. This is required for the app's core purpose.

Trip and settings data — When you start a trip, the app records distance, duration, average/max speed, and the route as GPS points. Your unit preference (km/h, mph, knots), speed-limit alert threshold, and display settings are also saved.

What the app does NOT collect — No name, email, phone number, or account (the app has no sign-in). No advertising ID, analytics identifier, or crash-reporting identifier is generated or read.

2. WHERE THIS DATA LIVES

All location readings, trip history, and settings are written to local storage on your device only. The app has no backend server — there is nowhere for this data to be sent. Trip history stays on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app.

3. HOW LOCATION IS USED

- Calculating and displaying your current speed on the digital, gauge, and HUD screens

- Plotting your position and route on the in-app map

- Computing trip distance, duration, and average/max speed while recording

- Comparing your speed against the alert threshold you set, if speed alerts are turned on

Location is never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond showing it back to you inside the app.

4. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

The Map display mode loads map imagery from OpenStreetMap tile servers. Fetching a map tile is a standard web request, so it necessarily reveals your device's IP address and the general map area being viewed to OpenStreetMap's infrastructure — the same as visiting any map website. The app uses no other third-party service — no analytics SDK, no ad network, no cloud storage.

5. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED

Location (while using the app) — requested the first time you open the Speed tab. Needed for every reading the app shows.

You can revoke this at any time from your device's Settings → Apps → GPS Speedometer → Permissions. With location off, speed and map screens will show a message asking you to re-enable it — no other part of the app is affected.

6. SHARING AND DISCLOSURE

The developer does not sell, rent, or share your location or trip data with anyone — there is no mechanism in the app to do so, and no server that could. The only outbound network activity is the map-tile requests described in Section 4.

7. YOUR CONTROLS

- Delete a single trip — swipe or tap delete on it from the History tab

- Clear all trip history — use "Clear all" in the History tab

- Revoke location access — your device's app permission settings

- Delete everything at once — uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data with it

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

The app is a general-purpose utility not directed at children and is not knowingly used to collect data from children under 13. Because all data stays on-device and no account is created, the app has no way to identify a user's age.

9. SECURITY

Trip and settings data is stored using your device operating system's standard app-local storage, sandboxed from other apps by the OS. Since no data is transmitted to a server, there is no server-side breach surface for this data.

10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If this policy changes, the "Effective" date at the top of this page will be updated and the change described here. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
