VI BREAST CANCER PROJECT OVERVIEW
The VI Breast Cancer Project is a sponsored project of the St. Croix Foundation Inc. The project is offering a series of Creative Therapeutic Expression Workshops for Breast Cancer Survivors. Through art and mindfulness meditation, the sessions will offer a variety of creative art projects such as basket weaving , creative writing, collage, painting, wire sculpture, ceramics, silk fabric dying, dance, yoga, music, and more! This safe space, both in-person and virtual, allows participants to also share personal stories with their peers.

Diane Hampton moved to St. Croix 21 years ago ad has embraced St. Croix as her home. Growing up in Washington DC she fell in love with a the arts as a child. School trips to the Smithsonian Museums, the Portrait Gallery, and Phillips Gallery became her favorite places to visit.
The Boating Party by Renoir at the Phillips Gallery is one of her favorite paintings which depicts her love for people and parties. Diane is a world traveler, she taught high school in Gabon, West Africa after returning to the US she taught "World Art History" at Parkdale High School in Prince George's County Public Schools. Ms. Hampton served as a third grade at St. Mary's Catholic School in St. Croix for two years prior to working for (VIUCEDD) University of the Virgin Islands Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities as the Program Director for the Assistive Technology Loan Program. Ms. Hampton worked as an art therapist for five years at the "Girls Cottage" Youth Rehabilitation Center (YRC). She worked for the V.I. Department of Labor as the Terittroy Disability Program Navigator. Diane is a certified ADA trainer through collaboration with VIUCEDD and Cornell University.
Ms. Hampton graduated from the University of Maryland and earned her master's degree in art education from Rutgers University. Diane is a graduate of the (NBCC) National Breast Cancer Coalition LEAD Institute and is also a member of the (NCCS) National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. She is an active lobbyist who regularly visits members of Congress on Capitol Hill.
When President Obama announced a national "Moonshot" cancer initiative, Diane was determined to attend the summit held at Howard University to hear Vice President Joe Biden's action plan to cure cancer. She also attended the 2019 Food and Drug Administration's Cancer Advocate Symposiums which has been a key part of her Advocacy Network back in D.C.
Ms. Hampton has been working for the past six years with a team of expert researchers and oncologist advisors. The Virgin Islands Breast Cancer Project research team's goal is to obtain federal funding from NIH to do research on breast cancer in the US Virgin Islands. Diane is determined to WIN with her fighting, creative spirit, and positive attitude. Her motto is "NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT".
