Dixon-Conderman VFW Post 2514 is proud to sponsor national VFW youth and educator recogniztion programs. Every year, our Post looks to this season with real excitement, because it gives us a chance to hear directly from the young people and educators who are shaping the future of our community, and to reward them for it.
The 2026-27 shared theme for our student essay competition is: "What a Veteran Taught Me About America"
Grades 9-12. Students record a 3 to 5 minute audio essay for a share of more than $1.4 million in national scholarships, topped by a $35,000 grand prize.
Entries and nominations are due to Post 2514 by midnight, October 31, 2026.
Grades 6-8. Middle schoolers put their own voice on paper with a 300-400 word written essay, competing for a share of nearly $1 million in awards nationwide, including a $5,000 top prize.

Nominate an outstanding educator for national recognition, a $1,000 award for the teacher, a $1,000 award for their school, and an all expenses-paid trip to the VFW National convention.

Open to Eagle Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Award, Venturing Summit Award, Sea Scout Quartermaster Award.
Recognizes outstanding Scouts who demonstrate patriotism, citizenship, leadership and community service.
