Eligibility criteria and requirements for CVA Level 1 - High School:

Students must be enrolled in a State-approved veterinary education pathway, with completion of at least 200-hours of classroom instruction/training, either within a School Facility or an
State Approved Distance Learning Program (see add-on option below)
• CVA Exam Applicant must be at least 16 years of age • Applicant must obtain 300 hours of practical work experience (paid or volunteer) in a veterinary setting under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian or a licensed veterinary technician • Applicant must submit a completed application for examination for CVA Level I certification including complete payment of examination fee(s) • Gain and demonstrate the hands-on skills listed on the CVA Level I “Skills Validation Checklist” Each. verified by a DVM or LVT• Applicant must score 70% or better on the CVA Level I certification exam.
Eligibility criteria and requirements for CVA Level 1 - College Student or Hospital Staff:
Must be currently employed in a Veterinary Hospital or Shelter
Obtain 500 hours of work experience under the supervision of a DVM or LVT , Applicant must submit a completed application for examination for CVA Level I certification including complete payment of examination fee(s) • Gain and demonstrate the hands-on skills listed on the CVA Level I “Skills Validation Checklist” Each. verified by a DVM or LVT• Applicant must score 70% or better on the CVA Level I certification exam.

Option 1 : CVA Level 1 Skills Verification +78 Clinical Hours
Purchase Includes:
-Mastery of content by demonstrating and/or describing required CVA skills in a series of video recordings that are *Verified by a Licensed Veterinary Professional*
-78 Clinical Hours AND Skills Validation Checklists
-Verification documents will be sent via email to be completed. The instructor/parent is responsible for sending completed forms to the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
Option 2 : CVA Level 1 Skills Verification + 78 Clinical Hours + Virtual Training Modules + Exam Voucher
Purchase Includes:
-Mastery of content by demonstrating and/or describing required CVA skills in a series of video recordings that are *Verified by a Licensed Veterinary Professional*
-78 Clinical Hours AND Skills Validation Checklists
-Student access to Patterson Veterinary Academy CVA Training Course
-One CVA Exam Voucher (Valued at $145.00 per exam voucher per TVMA)
Virtual Exam given on PVA Platform or Paper (If requested), proctored by an LVT
-Verification documents will be sent via email to be completed.
The instructor/parent is responsible for sending completed forms to the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
