At Vetiver Malaysia, we champion the use of the Vetiver System – a globally proven, nature-based solution for soil stabilization, water pollution control, slope protection, and land restoration. Harnessing the remarkable deep-rooted structure of vetiver grass, this system offers long-term resilience against erosion, flooding, and environmental degradation while enhancing biodiversity and sustainability.

Through HIJOU, we supply large quantities of high-quality vetiver plants for projects of any scale – from infrastructure protection to environmental rehabilitation. Backed by our technical expertise and project experience, we work closely with you to design, implement, and maintain successful vetiver-based solutions that deliver measurable results for the environment, communities, and industry.
“Vetiver grass is known as a wonder grass, a miracle grass and a magic grass in various parts of the world.”
- Dr. Paul Truong, Resource Sciences Centre, Queensland Department of Natural Resources
— From the paper The Global Impact of Vetiver Grass Technology
"Findings indicate that vetiver grass is highly efficient for stabilizing steep slopes up to 75% incline and reducing erosion by more than 90% compared to bare slopes."
-Dr. N. T. K. Luan,
Researcher
“The Vetiver System provides "a natural frontline defence system between Fijians and raging river waters."
- Fijian Prime Minister H.E. Voreqe Bainimarama
“Bioengineering… uses live materials, mainly vegetation, on its own or in integration with civil works to address the problems of soil erosion and slope stabilization.”
— Diti Hengchaovanich, Civil Engineer & Vetiver Specialist
"It is observed that the wastewater treatment using VS has significant potential to reclaim the wastewater. The VS is able to remove 80 to 85 % of BOD, 85 to 90 % of COD, and 85 % of total Coliform"
- Researcher P. V. S. R. N. Murthy
Dr P.K. Yoon
A Malaysian Pioneer in Vetiver Grass Technology
Dr. Yoon — affectionately known as PK — was a trailblazer in Malaysia’s vetiver journey. As head of the Plant Division at the Institute, he was among the first to explore the secrets of this remarkable grass, studying its roots and envisioning its use in tree crop plantations. His pioneering spirit led to the breakthrough application of Vetiver Grass Technology (VGT) across agriculture and engineering, setting the stage for sustainable solutions still used today. His work, captured in Look See at Vetiver Grass and Use of Vetiver for Embankment and Stabilisation in Malaysia, (archive) continues to inspire new generations. In 1997, PK’s dedication was honoured when he became the very first recipient of the prestigious King of Thailand Vetiver Award — personally presented by His Majesty at the Bangkok palace — a fitting tribute to a visionary who saw the future in a single grass.
