We've been able to make several volunteer matches at Edmonds-Woodway High School in October!
One volunteer weekly in for ESOL student support
Two volunteers matched to provide financial aid form advice this Spring
Two volunteers for the EWHS Music Boosters craft fair
It's a great start! Let's get some more matches going!
Currently we have two different opportunities to join our efforts

Our database is up and running and we are ready to post "jobs" aka volunteer opportunities.
Please help us out by completing our volunteer opportunity form (https://bit.ly/4h4g1AG) and let us know how the community can support you. This includes recurring opportunities, one-time events, and non-classroom opportunities (like preparing supplies). During this pilot project, we cannot guarantee that each opportunity will get filled, but we will do our best to find you a volunteer match.

The Volunteers for the Edmonds School District (VESD) was born out of reflection on the difference between being proactive versus reactive. There are many community members in the Edmonds School District who feel passionately about the education of the children within the ESD. What can we do to harness the energy of these community members for the benefit of our students and staff members?
All too often, the community is unsure of how to support and help the students, faculty, and staff at our schools. Volunteering in the Edmonds School District is limited to parents who interact with the various parent organizations at individual schools, or community groups who work on specific projects at schools. There are very few inroads to providing support directly to classrooms for families whose parent organization is not as active or community members without a direct affiliation with a particular school.
In addition, volunteerism within the ESD is often not equitably distributed. Some schools in the district have very active parent organizations which fund raise extensively to provide specialized programs and materials funds for their students and staff, while others do not have the support of such active parent organizations.
The Goal of the Volunteers for Edmonds School District (VESD) program is to provide a hub for community members to find volunteer opportunities, and faculty and staff to directly request help for specific tasks and projects. By connecting our community to our schools, we hope to both make a positive impact in the schooling of our youth, and create a bridge where community members learn about what’s happening in our schools and feel like they are a part of our educational system, and are thereby invested in its success.
The community-led VESD program will be composed of two parts, an easily accessible database where community members can offer their time and talents and faculty and staff can find and request volunteers, and a volunteer management structure which provides training and support for volunteers and teachers.
