Over the last several years, the OMERS Ventures team has been diving deep into the world of vertical software companies, and we are increasingly excited about the opportunities and growth patterns we see in this space. We see vertical software as the democratization of high technology, lowering barriers of entry to industries of all kinds, and to businesses of all sizes. 

Within the general SaaS industry, it’s becoming clear to us that vertical software companies are in a class of their own, with unique operating models and distinctive growth strategies. Despite this, vertical software companies are still benchmarked against the wider SaaS industry, which makes it difficult to accurately assess the competitive landscape and how individual companies are performing within it.  

We think vertical software companies deserve a set of benchmarking tools in order to assess their business more accurately, which is why we're partnering with Mosaic, Benchmarkit, and Luke Sophinos to launch our very first vertical software benchmark survey. 

With the survey, we hope to provide a set of metrics to help vertical software companies measure their progress, understand their competitive landscape more clearly, and gain more visibility into strategies that succeed across vertical software. 

We know that the true power of early-stage companies comes from the teams building them. Our goal in partnering with Mosaic, an innovative strategic finance platform and one of our portfolio companies, is to provide these teams with better tools to succeed and work their magic.
