Vermont History Day is the state affiliate of National History Day, a student-centered research program that engages young people in historical inquiry. Students investigate topics of their choice connected to an annual theme. This year’s theme is “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History.” Students will explore how people and events have challenged, responded to, or transformed societies over time through local, national, or global lenses.
Conducting research with primary and secondary sources, Vermont History Day supports the development of critical thinking, communication, and historical reasoning skills. The program connects classroom learning to a statewide and national community of students, educators, and historians. Ultimately, participation encourages curiosity, creativity, and deep engagement with the past.
