My Capstone Challenge will be to organize an assembly to honor and display the Tribal Flags for Montana.
A list of people, needs assessments, research, and other resources used to understand both the association generally and its practices and programs you hope to impact. The people that helped with this project are teachers in the Florence school. James Baxley, Kathryn Read and Leanne Deschamps. They recruited students to be presenters at the assembly. Evidence of this process is attached. Artifact #1 Also, a survey was completed, asking about grade levels, in which subject area they used IEFA and an IEFA lesson they presented. Artifact #3
A communications plan, list of allies or influencers, and strategies for engaging with diverse stakeholders. Kathryn Read reached out to Shane Morigeau and Mike Jetty to gather information and they did a staff training.
A narrative description of the solution, practice, or program you are advancing through your Capstone Project. The goal of my Capstone project is to teach the students about the history of each flag, have every student be able to identify each flag and display the flags in our school. The solution to these goals will be realized by the k-12 assembly to honor the flags and educate our school population. The assembly took place on March 12th, 2025.
Overview of process, identifying strengths and weaknesses of your diverse stakeholder participation, data analysis, and evidence of the extent to which that data produces changes in behavior and/or attitudes. The process of the assembly is outlined in the script, which is a piece of attached evidence below. All classes in the Florence Carlton School were required to attend the assembly thus is a strength of our diverse stakeholder participation. Artifact #2
Qualitative (to what extent) and quantitative (how many and how often) evidence of growth in your leadership pathway. Indicators of growth in the Facilitating Collaborative Relationships in my leadership pathway include moving from developing to performing. Evidence of this growth is that I facilitated collaboration and participated in a constructive, collaborative culture. I attended the IEFA conference with three teachers and one administrator to help assist in this project. I spoke regularly with members of the IEFA committee to better define our goals for the assembly. I added information to the shared folder such as recommended IEFA books to have in our school and classroom libraries.
Documentation of the role of technology in support of the work. Technology was used to create the script that is attached below. Technology is also used to create and maintain the shared IEFA folder.
Consensus building and negotiation tools and protocols. All teachers from K-12 attended the assembly. Administration supported this project, thus lending credibility to the importance of the information presented.
Agendas, presentations, publications, collaboratively designed plans, etc. The evidence of the agenda and presentation is listed in the attached script. Artifact #2
Correspondence, speeches, blogs, articles, press releases, social media, etc. The speeches are listed in the attached script. Artifact #2
Part A. Design Questions
Describe your action plan and how each of your four chosen competencies will influence its design and implementation. I assisted my colleagues to develop the plan for the assembly. The first competency of Explore and Challenge Inequity from the Diversity, Equity and Cultural Competence influences the implementation because of perceptions that exist in regard to our Indigenous people. Facilitating Collaborative Relationships influences the implementation because of the collaboration throughout all grade levels at Florence Carlton School. The competency of communication is vital as teachers are notified about the assembly. The competency of Interpersonal Effectiveness influences the implementation due to a shared vision for student learning.
How will your leadership leverage the strengths and address the needs of diverse stakeholders to support the action plan, develop capacity, broaden decision-making, and learn collaboratively? Using the interpersonal effectiveness competencies, I will be able to listen to the concerns of my colleagues and make decisions collaboratively.
How will you use collaboration, questioning, data, and reflection during the implementation of your action plan? I will meet with my colleagues, listening to their ideas and include their suggestions. We will collect the educational data for each flag in order to present an accurate history of the flag. We will meet to reflect after the assembly on what worked well and areas that might need improvement.
How will you address obstacles that you may encounter in implementing your plan? I will address any obstacles by communicating with the stakeholders involved. All areas of the school need to be involved with this process. Permission from administration, discussions with our P.E. department regarding the use of the gym and checking the schedule to make sure we don't have any scheduling conflicts.
How will you know if your action plan is successful? What evidence would support your claim? The success of the action plan is gauged by comments received from staff members after the assembly is over. Testimonies from staff members and students would serve as evidence to support my claim.
