Visit our Call Filter FAQs page for answers to common questions.

The Neighborhood Filter lets you block calls from all numbers with a specific area code/prefix. For example, if you block the area code/prefix 123.456, all numbers that begin with 123.456.xxxx will be forwarded to voicemail.

Call Filter Plus users can avoid certain call types (i.e., telemarketers, political, non-profits, survey) by using Call Categories blocking. In the Call Filter app, below the Spam Filter, just select the categories you want to block or forward to voicemail.

To opt out you'll need to turn off Silence Junk Callers in your iPhone settings and also turn off the Call Filter spam filter in the block tab of your Call Filter app or in My Verizon under settings.

Call Filter is not available on all calls, on all equipment, or in all areas. Caller ID is not available for restricted or unlisted numbers. Call Filter cannot yet identify or automatically block spam calls that originate outside of the US, but customers with an eligible device can now block all incoming calls from international numbers if they choose. Data charges apply.

Call Filter screens incoming callers to alert you if a number may be spam, a robocall or fraud. If your device isn't compatible with the Call Filter app, you may still be able to use Call Filter through My Verizon.*

Call Filter uses analytics and databases that are constantly evolving to detect spam calls, including those that may be spoofed.

You can help us improve the accuracy of the service by reporting spam numbers we may have missed.

We also use the STIR/SHAKEN technology to reduce the chances of incorrectly blocking or identifying a "good" call as "Potential Spam." Learn more about STIR/SHAKEN and how Verizon is using it.

Verizon doesn't guarantee that all spam calls will be detected. If you disagree with how a number was categorized by the system, you can unmark the number as spam, add to your contacts, or allow the number.

If a legitimate number is incorrectly identified as spam or miscategorized, visit our Verizon spam feedback page to let us know.

Call Filter app users with Call Filter (free) and Call Filter Plus can add phone numbers to a personal allowed list. Numbers added to this list will not be blocked*. Visit Add/remove allowed numbers to learn how.

*Some numbers may still be blocked by another app or service on your device. To help ensure any calls you want to receive are not blocked, you can also add them to your contacts.

Potential Spam*: Unwanted callers that may be calling indiscriminately or inappropriately to a large number of recipients.Robo Caller: Automated caller with a pre-recorded message.Potential Fraud: An entity likely pretending to be someone they're not with malicious intent.*All spam calls will be labeled as "Potential Spam" for customers enrolled in the free version of Call Filter.

Spam calls will either go to voicemail or be terminated depending on what you select in the Call Filter app or My Verizon. If you do not update your settings, spam calls will go to voicemail by default.

Due to the complexity of neighborhood spoofing, all calls from area code/prefix or area code you entered will be blocked, not just spam calls. Some wanted calls may be inadvertently blocked.

I would like to understand why the Call Filter app has not been made available on Pixel phones after all this time? I have enabled the basic Call Filter in my Device setup on the website, but it only filters our "High Risk" spam and with no options to control it. It doesn't help! I have device protection which gives the Call Filter Plus, but I can't use it! COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Others have mentioned that Google has better spam protection. I agree in some cases, but lately I have received a ton of spoofed calls about my so-called "iCloud account", or my social security number has been suspended, etc. They all have the same area code and three digit prefix as my phone with the last four digits random. The Call Filter is NOT helping, and Google's screening service is failing to detect that these are robocalls. In fact, I am concerned that the screening service may be making it worse since someone "answers" and talks.

Today alone, I count 12 spoofed spam calls over about 4 hours. I am beyond frustrated that Verizon does NOT detect and stop these calls from ever reaching my phone! Instead Verizon is trying to make money on this. SHAME ON YOU!

We need to be able to block more types of calls, such as calls from specific providers (Neutral Tandem) or line types (VOIP). I'm getting about two spam calls an hour. SIXTEEN total spam calls yesterday.

I get a lot of spam/robocalls (usually around 5 per day) and I recently signed up for verizon's "Call Filter" app which seems to block most of them, however it looks like the ones that still get through are VoIP calls that show a name or business unlike most of the blocked calls which show "UNKNOWN NAME". It could be that these particular calls are legitimate numbers being spoofed by scammers. It would be nice if there was a option for this app to block all VoIP calls, is this a possibility?

I had the exact same problem. The simple fact of the matter is that if Verizon wanted you to block this type of number, they would let you do so and the App would actually be useful. I no longer pay $2.99/month for this silly service. Instead, I suggest that you enable "Do Not Disturb" feature on your phone and set it up so that only callers who are on your Contacts list can get through. Much less distraction than Verizon's app where you pay them $2.99/mo to populate thier SPAM Database with numbers they already know. Here is how the Spammers work. 1) They have robots which will call phone numbers looking for the ones which are disconnected or out of service. They harvest these numbers in a database. 2) When spammers call you they use VoIP originated calls and equipment which spoofs a phone number using a number from this database of theirs. 3) You then pay $2.99/month for the privilege of entering these numbers indicating that the callers were SPAM. Verizon can solve this problem in the short-term by allowing users to block VoIP numbers. Then Spammer's will change to target their bots to older people and then harvest those numbers so when you get real angry and call back, some old man answers wondering why you are so angry.

The Solution is for Verizon to release STIR/SHAKN See -authentication and this will allow for all of this SPAM to virtually vanish. So Verizon, where are you on your STIR/SHAKEN implementation?

However, on reinstalling it, whenever I hit get started with my cell phone number automatically filled in, I get thrown back after a minute or so to the landing page with the error banner at the bottom of the page saying "We couldn't authenticate your device, please try again later.". Needless to say, trying again later doesn't help.

I have the same problem! I am not the main number on my family account but the app automatically prefills "current account" with my phone number and then says it can't authenticate the device / to try again later.

After checking the call filter site it shows that my Pixel, along with "BYOD Android" is not supported while "Verizon Android", whatever that is, is supported. This is disappointing because if anything, my version of android is more up to date than what they have usually.

However, since installing RoboKiller, it seems to have been extremely effective at combating scam calls. I tested RoboKiller, Hiya Premium, Verizon Call Filter Plus, and Malwarebytes Premium, and RoboKiller seems to be the most effective at combating scam calls, especially with its voice printing detection feature.

Therefore, should I continue to subscribe to both Verizon Call Filter Plus and RoboKiller to have the most effective peace of mind blocking of my scam calls, or when my subscription to RoboKiller comes up for renewal, should I phase it out and put all my scam blocking efforts into Verizon Call Filter Plus and save myself another $30/year?

I purchased an unlocked note 20 and after setting everything up my call filter doesn't want to work. When I go into the app it tells me to subscribe and when I press the button it says "Can't connect to the server".

I tried reinstalling the app and reset my phone. Every other verizon app works except call filter. It says it's on when I go into my account on the web site but why is the app not connecting. I tried on both WiFi and mobile data

I also have the same problem and they escalated after many tech calls and screen share sessions to the Tier 2 techs and now they are working on a solution as I have a ticket. This whole situation is a cluster specially I have the whole house tech insurance so the premium call filter is included. ff782bc1db
