Invalid email addresses are like zombies that eat away at the life of your email lists. The good news is, with some preventative steps and routine maintenance, you can keep your list alive and well. Invalid emails are anything that doesn’t receive your email, such as the email address may be formatted incorrectly, there might be a typo or it could be an email domain that has died.
1. People Have Misspelled Their Own Email Address
This is a very common problem, and it can be quite hard to catch sometimes. People will often type their own email addresses into forms, and they can forget to check for typos. This could be done intentionally if someone wanted to make it harder for you to contact them, or it can happen accidentally.
2. Their Address Has Changed
People move, change jobs and get fired all the time. This is a big reason why email addresses get invalidated. When this happens, they typically create a new account with their email service provider and abandon their old address.
3. The Domain Has Died
When an address meets all the formatting standards and is verified by an email validation service, it can still be considered invalid if the domain that links it to an IP is dead. This can be due to the server being down or because a company went out of business.
