(NL) Big Brother In The Studio (2022) is een video-installatie gemaakt door Verenigde Noties voordat ze deze naam droegen, de installatie werd gemaakt voor de gelegenheid van een gezamenlijke residentie in het Arentshuis te Brugge. Deze residentie en de daarmee verbonden tentoonstelling 'No Studio, No Art' concentreerde zich op de schaarste en noodzaak van atelierruimtes  in de stad. 

De video-installatie maakt gebruik van filmmateriaal waarbij lokale kunstenaars aan het werk in hun ateliers werden gefilmd. Het vogelperspectief toont dat het om verborgen camerabeelden lijkt te gaan. Een collage van deze beelden wordt getoond op verschillende monitoren en wordt begeleid door de woorden van Big Brother, de passieve halfgod en voyeur van dienst. Big Brother's monoloog start met de veilige afstand van een natuurdocumentaire maar ontrafelt zich hoe langer hoe meer in een existentiële exegese naargelang hij observeert hoe zijn onderzoeksobjecten, de kunstenaars, naar de wereld kijken met een intimiteit en scepticisme die hij zich zelf nooit kon veroorloven.

(ENG) Big Brother In The Studio (2022) is a video installation made by United Notions before they were called so, the installation was made for the occason of a collective residency at Arentshuis Brugge. This residency  concentrating on the scarcity of studio space in Brugge.

The video installation was based on filmed footage of local artists renting studio's in an old government building. The footage was filmed from bird's-eye view as if it was real cctv-footage. A collage of these images is displayed on different monitors while Big Brother, the big bad bird's-eye viewer himself, thrusts himself in a long monologue. The voice pulling this monologue along starts off as the distant voice-over of a nature documentarian but soon unravels more and more into existential dread and desperation as he observes his research-objects, the artists, looking at the world with the intimacy and skepticism he himself could never afford.
