Kodiak Challenge is a week-long leadership training for older scouts (ages 14+) from troops, crews, and ships. Kodiak is an experiential education where participants learn leadership skills as they participate in a trek that they and their crew design. Kodiak builds upon the skills learned in ILSC, ILST, or ILSS. Kodiak is a complimentary course to NYLT and NAYLE.
The Guides and Advisors have assembled a menu of activities centered around the Venturing Ranger Award requirements and electives. It's up to the crew to determine the core activities performed over the 5 full days of the course. Activity options are:
Backpacking
Cave Exploration
Conservation
Cooking
Ecology
Fishing
Land Navigation
Mountaineering
Shooting Sports / Archery
Watercraft
Wilderness Survival
In addition to the core daily activities, there will be training sessions offered to benefit Scout, Venturer, and BSA adult participants. Trainings will aid in rank advancements and Ranger Award Communications requirements; Outdoor Ethics, Mentoring Training, Fundamentals of Training, etc.
Each day will be wrapped up with a themed cracker barrel. Venturers will gather around, share tales of the day, and reflect upon the lessons learned. Stay tuned for information about the themes as you may need to bring "special" equipment to support the party theme, maybe such as a Luau, Karaoke Night, or the Wild West.
