Format - Group MatchPlay Qualifying (2 Hours) / Ladder Finals

Cost - $1 per game played - coin/bill drop.  Change available on site - bring cash!

What is Group MatchPlay?

For those that have never played this particular format - all players that enter the tournament are guaranteed at least two hours of competitive pinball play!  

In the Group MatchPlay format, players are: 

• Randomly assigned to a group of four (sometimes three) players.

• Randomly assigned a game to play.  

• Your group will play the game and you will be awarded points based upon the order in which you finish in your group.  

  • For a group of four, the points breakdown will be 7/5/3/1 and for a group of three the points breakdown will be 7/4/1.

• After all groups complete their first game - we shuffle the groups and the games and repeat as many times as we can before the two hours runs out.

• We expect to be able to play somewhere between 5 and 10 total rounds in the two hours - the exact number of rounds is dictated by how long it takes games to be played!

What is a "Ladder Finals"?

For those that have never played this particular format - at the end of the two hour qualifying period - the top finishers (exact number TBD by attendance - I'm hoping for top 6) will advance to a "Ladder" Finals format.  

In the "Ladder" Finals format, players are: 

• Ranked by their qualifying status after two hours of Group MatchPlay - the person who has the most accumulated points will be the #1 seed, second most accumulated points the #2 seed and so on.  In the event of ties, the ranking order listed on MatchPlay takes precendence.

• (Assuming a six person finals) - if there is a tie for the last qualifying position, a one game playoff will break the tie.  Seeing as this is a Venom launch party - the game will be Venom and play order will be randomly assigned.

• (Assuming a six person finals) - #1 and #2 seeds receive byes - seeds 3,4,5 and 6 play each other head to head on a  randomly assigned game.  The loser goes home, the other three survive for another round.

• In the next round, the #2 seed joins the remaining three players and the process repeats.

• In the next round, the #1 seed joins the remaining players and the process repeats.

• Once we are down to four players - each round, the last place finisher gets knocked out until there are only two players left, who duke it out head to head on Venom!
