If you want a sensor with extensive cross-compatibility for GM trucks and SUVs that fits into tight engine bays, choose VEHICODE Engine Coolant Temperature; if you need a direct replacement for classic Jeep or AMC models with specific OEM part numbers, choose KeeRoarin Engine Coolant Temperature.
• VEHICODE Engine Coolant Temperature: Excels in fitment breadth across decades of Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac vehicles; its main trade-off is that it requires careful verification against your specific model year since the compatibility list is massive. Best for owners of Silverados, Suburbans, and Equinoxes looking for a complete kit with a pigtail connector.
• KeeRoarin Engine Coolant Temperature: Offers a focused, high-quality solution specifically for legacy Jeep and AMC platforms like the Cherokee and Wagoneer; its limitation is strict exclusivity to those brands and older model years. Best for enthusiasts restoring classic American off-roaders who need an exact match for part number 3177594.
• Both products prioritize durability and precise temperature reading, but they serve completely different eras and manufacturers of automotive history.
The VEHICODE sensor is built for the modern American mechanic working on a wide array of General Motors vehicles. Its design philosophy centers on versatility and ease of installation for a massive range of cars and trucks produced over two decades. If you own a vehicle from the GM family tree—whether it is a heavy-duty Sierra, a suburban Suburban, or a sporty Camaro—this unit is engineered to slot directly into the cooling system without requiring custom fabrication. This breadth suggests that the physical dimensions and electrical interface are standardized across many GM powertrains, making it a reliable choice for shops dealing with fleet maintenance or individuals with multiple vehicles.
What stands out most about this product is the inclusion of the pigtail connector socket wire harness in the kit. Many aftermarket sensors arrive as bare units, forcing the buyer to cut wires or splice connectors, which introduces potential points of failure in a high-vibration engine environment. By including the harness, VEHICODE reduces the complexity of the job. You are not just buying a sensor; you are buying a plug-and-play solution that respects the factory wiring layout. This attention to detail is crucial for anyone working in tight spaces where maneuvering tools and splicing wires can be frustratingly difficult.
This sensor is ideal for drivers who value a straightforward swap and want to avoid the guesswork of finding a matching connector. It is particularly well-suited for owners of full-size trucks and SUVs, where the cooling system components can be buried deep within the engine bay. However, if you drive a vehicle outside the GM ecosystem, this product is not for you. The sheer volume of compatible models listed also means you must double-check your specific VIN or engine code against the reference list to ensure there is no overlap error. It is a robust, general-purpose tool for the GM world, designed to handle the heat and pressure of modern cooling systems while maintaining accurate temperature readings for the computer.

KeeRoarin takes a different approach, focusing entirely on the preservation and maintenance of classic American automotive heritage. This sensor is not a universal fitment; it is a targeted solution for owners of Jeep and AMC vehicles, specifically those with the OEM part number 3177594. If you are restoring a CJ5, a Wagoneer, or a Cherokee from the 1980s, this is likely the exact component your vehicle requires. The product description emphasizes high-quality materials and durability, which are critical when replacing parts on vintage machinery that has seen significant wear and tear. Unlike the broad net cast by VEHICODE, KeeRoarin casts a deep, narrow line into the market for specific legacy models.
The simplicity of the package aligns perfectly with the needs of classic car restoration. The listing indicates a single unit count, which is standard for these types of replacements. For an owner of a Matador, Gremlin, or Hornet, finding a new temperature sending unit can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a haystack due to the age of these vehicles. KeeRoarin provides a clear path forward by explicitly listing the part number and the specific models it serves. This clarity eliminates the anxiety of buying the wrong part for a rare vehicle. The focus here is on function and fidelity to the original equipment, ensuring that the coolant temperature is measured accurately so the vehicle runs efficiently without overheating.
This product is best for the DIY enthusiast or the professional restorer who values authenticity and precision over a long list of compatibility options. It is less about the "plug-and-play" convenience of a full harness and more about the core functionality of the sensor itself. If you have a classic Jeep that needs to run reliably on the trail or the road, this sensor is designed to meet that demand. However, if you drive a modern truck or a domestic sedan from the 2000s, this sensor will not fit your vehicle. It is a specialized tool for a specialized audience, offering peace of mind to those keeping the spirit of American off-roading alive.

In my opinion, I would choose the VEHICODE Engine Coolant Temperature for the vast majority of modern American drivers. The inclusion of the pigtail connector and the sheer breadth of compatibility make it a superior choice for anyone working on a GM vehicle today. It removes the guesswork of wiring and fits seamlessly into the tight spaces common in modern engine designs. However, if you are holding a wrench on a classic Jeep Cherokee or a Wagoneer, the choice shifts immediately to KeeRoarin. There is no point in trying to force a modern GM sensor onto a vintage chassis; you need the exact part number match that KeeRoarin provides. Ultimately, both are solid products for their respective niches, but VEHICODE offers a more comprehensive solution for the contemporary market.
Absolutely, the product listing explicitly states it replaces OEM number 3177594 and is designed for select Jeep and AMC models like the Cherokee and Wagoneer.
No, the kit includes the thermostat cooling sensor along with a pigtail connector socket wire harness, meaning you likely won't need to purchase extra wiring parts.
Probably not; the product is targeted at classic models like the CJ5, CJ7, and older Cherokees. Modern Jeeps usually require different part numbers, so you should verify your specific year and engine before ordering.
