2021 was the deadliest year for transgender people by homicide on record, and this number relies on very little data derived from obituaries and news reports. There is no requirement for law enforcement to decide a person's gender for them, and there never will be.
The city of Chicago is where 11% of the 2021 murders in the United States occurred.
Today's society is not perfect, but more openly accepting towards the trans community than ever before. Despite the positive change towards human equality, there has been an unprecedented increase in trans murders and suicides since 2020. Trans people are dying, most people are completely unaware of the issue, and this is by design. Despite endless transgender-targeted hate crimes and gruesome murders over the past 6 years, the most devastating commonly known incident is still the true story of the 1999 movie Boys Don't Cry.
The map above shows trans murders REPORTED in countries in NEWS REPORTS ONLY. They'd need to spefically mention the deceased was transgender in a news article. These statistics also exclude the homicides listed as suicide or overdose.

31 year old transwoman Elise Malary's body was found dead in Lake Michigan.
Elise was a recognized LGBTQ+ rights activist in Chicago.
She was also a Community Outreach Specialist at the Chicago Therapy Collective, a group dedicated to supporting mental health in the transgender community.

43 year old cisgendered (not trans) Brandon Durham was shot and killed in his own home when police opened fire seconds after seeing him struggling with a transgender woman in his home.
A body camera video over 30 minutes long aired on Las Vegas news stations showing the murder. At the beginning of the video the dispatcher says "transwoman" and "black wig" over the police radio before the officer Alexander Bookman races away to kill the trans person.
Although Brandon is not transgender, the police officer opened fire too quickly to determine which of them was the trans person, and Alexandria was taller than him. It's safe to say Alexander Bookman accidentally shot five bullets into the wrong person.
Alexandria was cited stating she "wanted the police to kill her" the night of the shooting. This was a few months after I moved to Las Vegas, and the local community heard about this website.
Brandon called the police to his home for a domestic disturbance; concered about Alexandria's mental wellbeing.

24 year old Sam Nordquist was kidnapped and beaten for over a month by seven people before dying.
Law enforcement declined to conduct multiple wellness checks requested by Sam's family before his death.

21 year old transwoman Cypress Ramos was found dead in a storage locker after being beat to death.
Her murderer Allan Montemayor claimed it was self defense. He claimed a small 21 year old transwoman was randomly attacking him (a large 32 year old man). Apparently this is why he had to hide her in a storage unit?
Her murderer also told police that he heard voices in a song that told him to kill her.

29 year old transwoman Fern Feather was stabbed to death amidst a sexual encounter by a man who said it was because he "wasn't gay".
Her murderer Seth Brunell claimed he "was just protecting himself". Apparently requiring him to stab her to death with a 12 inch knife after he more than likely realized she was trans.
Her murderer Seth Brunell was recently released from a psychiatric hospital.

47 year old transwoman Maddie Hofmann was shot by police in her home less than a minute after they entered.
Police were called to the home for a wellness check to aid in a mental health crisis.

26 year old transman Aaron Lynch was shot four times and killed by police in his home while holding a decorative mask and wine bottle.
Police were responding to a call about a mental health crisis. For some reason, they returned a second time after Aaron was initially not found at the residence. Apparently to personally ensure they took care of the situation (not according to any law enforcement protocol).
Please try to connect the dots between the rest of this site and the mental health issues mentioned in each murder.
