Assistant Professor,
Mechanical Engineering Department,
NIT Srinagar
I am Dr. Ved Prakash Sharma, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Srinagar. I completed my Ph.D. at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. I am also a Member of The Institution of Engineers (India). My research is in the area of mechanical design specifically in failure analysis, crack propagation, and fracture. My approach to failure analysis involves systematic experimental studies, fractography studies, and numerical modeling techniques.
My Ph.D. research was related to microelectronics package reliability. In electronic devices, electronic circuits are the most important components which consist of mainly two parts namely integrated circuits (ICs) and printed circuit boards (PCBs). The ICs are mounted onto the PCBs using solder joints. The failure of even a single solder joint in the circuit will cause the device to not function properly. Therefore, it is very important to characterize the failure of these solder joints to improve the overall reliability of the device.
The solder joint geometry, IMC layer thickness, and composition of solder alloy are the important factors affecting joint quality. Along with this, it is also important to understand the effect of the speed of loading on the failure behavior of the joint to have better strength under impact loading. So, my focus was to understand the effect of these factors on joint quality in terms of fracture toughness.
I have published numerous research papers in highly reputed journals and have attended several conferences.
