Problem

Venice’s tourism industry is growing tremendously, but at the expense of losing focus on the support of locally-owned business. This leaves many abandoned storefronts and a declining economy. This is not a sustainable system, and is a cause for concern for locals.

Mission

The ultimate goal of this project is to collect data for analysis of the changing retail landscape of Venice. By providing an up to date database of the many facets of Venetian retail, this data use to identify the economic trends of the historic area of Venice.

Objectives

To collect data on types of retail in Venice using the existing smart phone app in accordance with standards used by previous teams.
To improve on the current web-based data visualization tool used by the center.
To analyze the changes and patterns in the retail sector over time and identify factors.
