The functions of the Virginia Beach Special Education Advisory Committee (VBSEAC) are to
Participate in the review of the school division's annual plan,
Advise the school division of needs in the education of students with disabilities,
Participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting the identified needs of students with disabilities
Submit periodic reports and recommendations regarding the education of students with disabilities,
Assist the school division in interpreting to the community plans for meeting the special needs of students with disabilities for educational services and,
Review the policies and procedures for the provision of special education and related services prior to submission to the local school board.
The committee is made up of members from our community who meet one or more of the following criteria:
Persons with disabilities residing in the City of Virginia Beach;
Parents/guardians of students with disabilities who receive services from VBCPS;
Community civic organizations;
Public agencies concerned with the care of persons with disabilities;
Representatives from other local advisory committees concerned with the education and training of students with disabilities;
One teacher currently employed by the School Board.
