VT DEC searching for Lakes Program Manager

The Lakes and Ponds Management and Protection Program works to protect, maintain, enhance, and restore the health of Vermont lakes and the public uses that healthy lake ecosystems provide through outreach and education, monitoring and assessment, and regulatory programs.  With over 800 lakes and ponds in VT, there is a lot of work that happens in this DEC Program. Do you have the skills and experience to lead it?

As the Lakes Program Manager you will work collaboratively with internal and external partners and division leadership to oversee the management, administrative, planning, and policy work of the Lakes and Ponds Program.

VT DEC Lakes and Ponds: Aquatic Invasive Species Tech

Seeking an energetic and outgoing individual to join our aquatic invasive species (AIS) management team. The primary responsibilities of the incumbent will be to provide technical assistance to partners and stakeholders, including lakeshore property owners, lake/watershed associations, the public, and other State of VT Agencies on all aspects of AIS prevention and management work in the Lake Champlain Basin. Preference will be given to those with previous experience in AIS spread prevention efforts and those familiar with motorized watercraft.

VT DEC Rivers Program: Floodplain Manager 

This position is located within the River Corridor and Floodplain Protection section of the Vermont Rivers Program. This position will serve as the Assistant National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Coordinator and Regional Floodplain Manager. As the Assistant NFIP Coordinator, this position will work with the State NFIP Coordinator to assist in coordination and implementation of the state’s Floodplain Management Program. 

The position requires working both independently and collaboratively to plan and implement the Program’s annual floodplain management activities, recommend mitigation project goals to enhance natural river systems and to minimize conflicts between river/floodplain dynamics and human investments.

Essex County NRCD is hiring a Working Lands & Nursery Conservation Specialist

ECNRCD is hiring a Working Lands & Nursery Conservation Specialist who is interested in building community to support agricultural producers and conservation work in Essex County, VT. The Conservation Specialist will focus on two of ECNRCD’s major programs. They will provide outreach, education, and technical assistance to working lands managers in Essex County to ensure business viability and environmental health. The incumbent will also manage the District’s conservation nursery, growing trees and shrubs from seed to fulfill orders for restoration work. 


The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk) and, like all District work, will be primarily grant funded, with the expectation that nursery work will be funded by tree sales in the future. Support and training will be available from the District Manager and a number of partner organizations which the District works in close collaboration with. The ideal candidate will have an interest in taking on the financial and strategic planning of both programs over time.
