jecarter@vavirtual.orgHello! I’m honored to serve as the elementary principal here at Virginia Virtual Academy. I’ve been an educator for over 23 years, with experience as a special educator and instructional coach across grades K–12. I joined the VAVA team in 2018 as a special education teacher and immediately felt at home in our vibrant, student-centered community.In 2007, I earned my master’s degree in Instructional Technology, which deepened my passion for using innovative tools to enhance teaching and learning. I later pursued a second master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Radford University, which I completed in 2021, the same year I stepped into the role of assistant principal here at VAVA High School.My journey in education has always been driven by a commitment to student growth, teacher support, and creating learning environments where every child feels seen, heard, and empowered. I’m excited to bring that same energy and dedication to our elementary program and look forward to partnering with families and staff to help our students thrive.

She attended Radford University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership. She taught at the elementary level for several years in brick and mortar schools and a few college leveled classes at a local community college before joining the VAVA family. Jessica served as a homeroom teacher with VAVA prior to transitioning to the Assistant Principal role. Jessica resides in southern Virginia with her husband and four children. She is passionate about students, education, and relationships and extremely honored to be a part of the VAVA team.
Ashley Boone

asboone@vavirtual.orgAshley joined the VAVA team in January 2021. She began her at VAVA as a 4th grade teacher and is extremely excited to be serving as assistant principal. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Ferrum College and began teaching 5th grade directly upon graduation. During Ashley's time teaching 4th and 5th grade in her local brick and mortar school district, she earned a Master's of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Radford University. She resides in southwest Virginia with her husband, daughter, and their family dog. Ashley has a passion for relationship building amongst teachers, students, and families and is excited to be a part of the VAVA family.
Ashleigh Cicconi

Assistant Principal
acicconi@vavirtual.orgAshleigh Cicconi, EdD, MT-BC, CCTS-F, CBC, holds degrees in music therapy, education, and educational leadership, as well as certifications in music therapy, family trauma treatment, and cognitive behavior coaching. She has served as an adjunct instructor at Towson University and Bard College for 10 years, teaching and developing courses in music education, music therapy, and special education. Dr. Cicconi was an educator for over 10 years before becoming a school administrator. She has a background teaching in both special education and performing arts classrooms across grades PK-12. Prior to joining Virginia Virtual Academy, Dr. Cicconi served as an administrator at a private day school for students with disabilities, and was previously a special education coordinator in Maryland. While being a clinician for over 14 years, Cicconi’s passion has always belonged to education, with research focusing on trauma and teacher burnout, and schoolwide initiatives that improve teacher retention, professional development support for educators, and access to high-quality instruction for students of all abilities.
