Day one of shooting so of course the location fell through and most of the extras never showed up... So we had a half hour to get a location and the crew had to fill in for extras but ended up being lots of fun. I just want to say thanks to the cast/ crew of Lilium. A lot of work was put in that day and we were lucky to have the Cork film center, who were so helpful on such short notice
While filming a scene in one part of the city, the art team had to set up a large murder scene on the other side. We went straight to that location as soon as we were finished the first, leaving little time to set everything up. They got it done though, like champs.
For both the day and the night our cast and crew fought against heavy rain, powerful wind and freezing cold. If you think the rest of our cast/crew was crazy enough and committed enough to bring you 'Lilium' in this weather... One of our lead actress did it in a dress and heels.
After days of non stop, no rest, shooting the cast and crew were running on fumes, got it done though.
This was one of our most intense shoots. We had to get a lot of the shots in one take because of Blood packs, explosions etc. The cast and crew did this scene all afternoon and then came back to do the second half between 4 and 7am.
Shot in a tiny shed, there was very little space for cast and crew so we only had two actors and one person behind the camera inside.
Took us over 14 hours but we got 4 scenes done in one day, have I said how great the cast and crew of lilium are?
Up till dawn shooting in the cold, Irish countryside.
Lots of traveling to shoot one of the more dangerous murder scenes.
Beautiful forest location with old Irish castle, large river and centuries old abbey.
Shooting one of the most important scenes in the film, using yet another persons house. So many people helped, it was amazing. We also had biscuits.
Because of the shoot being in the city center, the street noise and traffic was so bad it took two days of shooting to get all the shots needed for this scene.
As the thriller unfolds, we jump back and forth from an interrogation scene.
After 5 attempts to get this scene (That's 5 separate days over 2 months) we finally got it. Its not like it was a difficult scene ether but every time something went wrong from weather to dogs and buzz saws to seagulls (We're not even by the water)... luckily the tape didn't explode or something on the way back and that scene is done and dusted.
On this day I was surprised to get to film this scene in a funeral home, but I learned during the shoot that most people will help if you just give them a call and ask.
A lot of work but a lot of fun. We made it through in the end with the script starting in January 2012 and the editing finished in December 2012. With no money, borrowed equipment and having to get locations as we went, the team powered through and I couldn't be more proud of everyone.
If you've gotten to this point, then thanks for taking the time to look through the behind the scenes photo's. There are a lot more on the Lilium facebook page which you can check out by clicking the link below.
