The French as a Second Language Program (Core / Immersion) is designed to prepare students to communicate and function in the workplace in both of Canada's official languages, focusing on:
A - LISTENING:
A1. Listening to Understand: Determine meaning in various oral French texts using diverse strategies.
A2. Listening to Interact: Interpret oral messages to interact in French for different purposes and audiences.
A3. Intercultural Understanding: Identify cultural information and sociolinguistic conventions in oral texts.
B - SPEAKING:
B1. Speaking to Communicate: Communicate ideas orally in French using appropriate strategies and structures.
B2. Speaking to Interact: Participate in spoken interactions for various purposes and audiences.
B3. Intercultural Understanding: Demonstrate awareness of Francophone communities and sociolinguistic conventions in spoken interactions.Â
C - READING:
C1. Reading Comprehension: Understand meaning in various French texts using comprehension strategies.
C2. Purpose, Form, and Style: Identify purpose and style in diverse text forms (fictional, informational, graphic, media).
C3. Intercultural Understanding: Understand information about Francophone communities and compare their customs.
D - WRITING:
D1. Purpose, Audience, and Form: Write in French for various purposes, using appropriate vocabulary and conventions.
D2. The Writing Process: Use planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing to produce written work.
D3. Intercultural Understanding: Incorporate cultural information and expressions from Francophone communities in written work.
