Late EMMANUEL VAS, the founder of VAS BAKERY, was popularly known as Mona Vas, a pioneer in the bakery industry in Mangalore, established VAS BAKERY in the year 1905 in a premises he owned in Balmatta.
With great dedication, sacrifice & hard work, he made a great name in the field. He catered to the needs of foreigners settled in Mangalore, with bakery products, Bread, Buns, Toasts, Rusks, Biscuits, Cakes, Savouries, etc.
Emmanuel Vas' son SEBASTIAN VAS, continued this business introducing modern equipments and techniques in the manufacture of bakery products. He branched out with more sales outlets in the city. The one and only in Bendoor, namely VAS & SONS, is noteworthy which is housed at Vas Mahal, Bendoor Circle.
To cope with the increasing demand for bakery products, Sebastian Vas set up a fully automatic modern mechanized factory with imported production lines at Maroli-Kulshekar on a 2.5 acre campus. The factory was inaugurated on a grand scale by the then Bishop of Mangalore, Basil Salvadore D'Souza, on October 22, 1967. The function was presided over by the then DK Deputy Commissioner Mr. H L Nage Gowda.
It is an immense pleasure to serve Mangaloreans with our value added trust worthy services.
Presently we have about 25 workers in the manufacturing and sale of the products, produced hygienically with excellent expertise. The Legacy is continued to this day by Bryan Vas, son of the Late Sebastian Vas.
