The Meeting of Astronomers in South Carolina is an annual meeting of South Carolina researchers in the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
The first meeting was organized in Dec. 2001 by Varsha Kulkarni at the Univ. of South Carolina. Originally called “SCAM”, the meeting later acquired the friendlier name of “MASC”. Since the first 2001 meeting, MASC has been held at various universities around the state (Bob Jones University, Clemson University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Furman University, and SC State university).
MASC brings astronomy professors and students around the state together, and provides opportunities to foster collaborations in research and teaching among the different institutions.
MASC in-person meetings could not happen during the years affected by Covid-19, but have resumed since the Spring 2025 meeting at Francis Marion University. The Spring 2026, 2027, and 2028 meetings are tentatively expected to take place at Furman University, Clemson University, and University of South Carolina, respectively.
