Line Following Hovercraft
This project was my first robotics adventure after I joined the Robotics Club of my university in my freshmen year. I led a team of three students and developed a line following hovercraft.
The chassis of the robot was manufactured out of polystyrene foam due to its low density. A brushless DC motor at the center of the hovercraft was used to generate sufficient lift. For navigating turns, 2 DC motors were mounted on each side. In order to detect black line on a white surface, we used monolithic photodiode. Finally, a PID control loop was implemented in an Arduino micro-controller.
For our excellent performance and innovative design, we were awarded "Pearl Award" by Alumni Association of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), India.
