Editors' Note

The first website of Vantage magazine is the direct outcome of the Feature and Analytical Writing course undertaken by Media Practice students of the 2020-2022 batch. Previous batches either had a print magazine or an e-magazine. In this digital edition, we did not limit ourselves to a particular theme and let our peers unleash their journalistic potential.

Our cover stories explore often ignored topics: from focusing on abysmally low human trafficking conviction rates that persist in Telangana to the plight of small vendors in the Charminar area of Hyderabad in post-Covid times.

With Covid continuing to be a daily reality, we delved into the pandemic-induced effects on various industries and businesses. Some of our main feature articles focus on publishing, tourism and small family-run bakeries in Hyderabad.

We traverse a range of topics that need to be a part of the national discourse: from the tricky data privacy laws, the predicament of the Afghan students in India after the Taliban takeover to the perils of online dating for Indian women. Furthermore, we look into the sudden relocation of Hyderabad’s fruit market, the struggles of the Indian documentary filmmakers, the emerging plant-based food technology and the changing politico-cultural trends of the Maha Shivratri festival at the Kotappakonda Temple in Guntur.

A spectrum of ideologies can be found in our perspective section as budding journalists write about subjects that are close to their hearts. Presenting concrete arguments and backed by relevant data, our class gives a nuanced picture of the burning issues of our times.

We hope that our storytelling is able to evoke an intellectual and emotional experience in you. We hope to provide food for thought through our perspective pieces and to shine a light on under-reported topics that need more attention.
