Asst. Prof. Dr. Vannak Vai was born in Tahy Village, Prey Khpuos Commune, Bavel District, Battambang Province, Cambodia. He received his Engineer’s degree in Electrical and Energy Engineering from the Institut de Technologie du Cambodge (ITC), Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2012, his Master's degree in Electrical Energy from the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble (Grenoble INP-Ense3), Grenoble, France, in 2013, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), Grenoble, France, in 2017. He was a MOPGA Visiting Scholar with the Grenoble INP/UGA-G2Elab in 2023, where he focused on the open-source planning tool for LVAC. He was also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Energy Systems Innovation Center (ESIC), Washington State University (WSU) in spring 2025, where he worked on the planning and operation of LVAC with RTDS. To date, he has authored/co-authored more than 40 international peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He has been a Lecturer-Researcher in the Department of Electrical and Energy Engineering, ITC, since 2013. His research interests include power system operation, planning, and economics, distributed energy resource integration, and hybrid energy systems.
