Student Teaching/Intern Work
Holy Guacamole, you are in fourth grade!
This was my first bulletin board that I made to prepare for my student teaching. Each student's name was carved into a tortilla chip!
Students in fourth grade created their own biography poems and were displayed in the hallway!
I created and did this project with fourth graders when I was a substitute for the class. Students created their snowman and we brainstormed people we would "melt for," (someone we are grateful for) and why. Students then drafted a paragraph in their notebooks providing reasons why they would "melt for" their chosen person. Students enjoyed this project!
During student teaching, I taught a lesson on adjectives. I brought in objects in a paper bag and provided a list of adjectives that described the object. Student used these clues to guess what the object was. I then had students get an object and list adjectives to describe the object. To conclude the lesson, I introduced the students to WordArt. They got to choose a shape of their choice and insert at least 15/20 adjectives to describe their shape. The students LOVED this activity and it was a great way for student choice, as they were motivated to determine adjectives to describe their chosen shape of choice. I printed and hung their final WordArts in the classroom on display.
I was a substitute for a first grade class for 2 weeks. The teacher was sick and provided suggested topics to cover. Martin Luther King Jr. Day fell during this time, so I found a cute project for students to complete as part of our weekly activities. I did a read aloud with the class about Martin Luther King Jr. We discussed the importance of kindness, and equality. As I was preparing for this lesson, I noticed that the last page of the book I was going to read aloud stated, "Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to make the world a better place. How can you make the world a better place?" In reading this, it sparked this project! We brainstormed and discussed various ways that we can make the world better and drafted a list. Students chose what they wanted to write in their circle. Once completed, I put all of the student work outside for display with a title.Â
When substituting, I taught students some consonant digraphs and blends, as well as different word endings/suffixes such as "ed," "s/es," and "ing." After teaching and listening to the sounds that they make, the teacher requested students to look for some words that incorporated these aspects from their books. I had students find at least 3 each day and put on a post-it. I made these cute posters and hung around the room. The students were so excited to see their work displayed. Â
New Year's Resolutions! We talked about what a New Year's resolution is and then students wrote down and colored their resolution!
