I just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed this summer. I must say that it was a scary experience. I decided to get them removed because the x-ray showed that they were impacted (budding laterally). My teeth were not particularly painful before I got them removed, leaving me to wonder if the removal actually made a difference in my health. Anyhow, I documented my daily diet below and provided some tips from my extended research.
Day 1 Condition: Anesthesia made me sleepy. Couldn’t feel my lips after the surgery. I was under local anesthesia with lidocaine. The anesthesia started to wear off at night and it hurt a lot. I took a 600mg Ibuprofen pill that helped a lot with pain management.
Day 1 Diet: I didn’t eat anything because I was in so much pain. :((
Day 2 Condition: The bleeding got better, but there is still blood oozing. It suddenly hurt really bad in the afternoon: blood pressure raising and a lot of pressure on my upper gum, so I took another Ibuprofen and napped. It took 20-30 mins for the Ibuprofen pill to kick in, which made me lie down in pain for 30 mins before I fell asleep. I took a lot of naps on Day 2 because I felt very tired.
Day 2 Diet: I had yogurt in the morning. And then porridge with grinded vegetables for lunch, which was a bad idea because the veggies got stuck to my teeth easily. So I tried something new for eating veggies the next day. I had carrot soup for dinner with mashed potatoes.
Day 3 Condition: Not painful anymore. I still couldn’t close my mouth because of the swollen gum. I have not taken any pain killers since this day. I took 3 pills of antibiotics per day as prescribed.
Day 3 Diet: Gerber apple sauce baby food in the morning. For lunch I had porridge again, but for this time I grinded the veggies and then filtered out the fibers, so it became just green porridge. Chicken soup and mashed potatoes for dinner. I was craving for salt a lot so I put himalayan salt in nearly all my food.
Day 4 Condition: Better than yesterday but still swollen. I look like I have baby fat on the two sides of my face. Continued to take antibiotics. No pain killers.
Day 4 Diet: I had ½ mashed avocado with honey for breakfast, which was soooooo good I looove avocados. For lunch I had more chicken soup, mashed potato, and porridge. I ate freeze-dried yogurt for snack, which are tiny droplets of dried yogurt that melts in your mouth (delicious!). Dinner was the best -- porridge cooked in chicken soup 🤤
Day 5 Condition: Noticeably better than the day before. I can open and close my mouth with ease, which allowed me to see my gums. While they don’t look nice, they’re definitely getting better. I forgot, twice, to take antibiotics this morning and yesterday afternoon… don't make this mistake.
Day 5 Diet: Honey yogurt with bee pollen in the morning. For lunch I had porridge cooked in chicken soup. They’re so good! Freeze dried yogurt bites for snacc. I also had a cup of collagen drink. Steam eggs with soy sauce was wonderful for dinner.
Day 6 Condition: Felt the same as I did yesterday. I had mashed avocado with honey for breakfast. I just realized I eat the same things a lot.
Day 6 Diet: I had oatmeal for breakfast, and then mashed potatoes for lunch. For dinner I had bone broth.
I feel completely normal now after a week, even though I can see that there are still holes in my upper gum. I would recommend continuing to eat soft food after a week to take care of your gums. Best food for gum healing are those with collagen and vitamin C. I took vitamin C pills once every other day; they helped a lot with the healing.
Some of the best food were steam eggs, salted mashed potatoes, porridge in broth, and honey drizzled oatmeal. Also, it isn’t about how much you eat, but how much nutrition you get. Stay strong~ :PPPP
