I've made a video, but I recommend you to read the written tutorial from below as well: https://vimeo.com/823292641
I know video quality is poor, but youtube deleted it and I don't have the original anymore. Please read the written tutorial too.
And don't forget about the troubleshooting section down below: link.
New: another tutorial doing the same thing: https://sodawithoutsparkles.github.io/revanced-troubleshooting-guide/00-first-start/
Every step is absolutely important, and skipping one will get you nowhere.
You might want to check the bottom of this page for troubleshooting.
1. Download and install (or update) the latest version of Vanced MicroG from here:
https://github.com/inotia00/VancedMicroG/releases this will work with ReVanced too, even though it says it’s for Vanced.
2. Download and install the latest version of ReVanced Manager:
https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager/releases
3. Follow the next steps, you have to download (and don't install) the latest supported youtube APK from apkmirror in order to use it for patching.
3.1 You can check the latest supported youtube APK here, under com.google.android.youtube:
https://revanced.app/patches?pkg=com.google.android.youtube
[It's the Target Version you’ll have to use in the next step]
[Click on Details to reveal the target version for com.google.android.youtube]

3.2 Download the APK from https://www.apkmirror.com/ by searching “youtube <the target version numer you found at step 3.1>”
Example to search by: “youtube 18.08.37”
3.3 Download the non-bundled APK like in this photo https://i.imgur.com/3zbaT1u.png
4. Open ReVanced Manager to patch your downloaded APK:
4.0 You can follow this video on how to use the patcher, while following steps 4.1 - 4.4 for a better understanding
https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/WOz7CuS7AVY
Ignore what patches are selected in the video, I’ve tapped randomly on them, you are better with the recommended ones + microg patch.
I am truly sorry the original video is a short, I have no idea how to make it look like a normal video, but enjoy the nocookie alternative.
4.1 From the bottom menu select Patcher. Then tap on Select an application.
4.2 Tap on the Storage button from the bottom-right corner, not on the Youtube app displayed [which is the system’s default app].
Then search the APK you just downloaded, and select it.
4.3 Tap on Selected patches, choose your patches and press on ‘Done’:
You either tap on Recommended to auto-select, or go manually through each and every one.
I recommend you to read them all and select the ones that you will certainly use.
Do not tap on “All” button! Some patches from that list might be for rooted phones too, you're better with sticking to the Recommended ones.
MicroG patch is required for non-root phones, please be sure it’s selected!
4.4 Tap on the Patch button from the bottom-right corner.
5. Wait for the patcher to do its magic, it can take up to half an hour.
6. When it finishes patching, an “Install” button will appear in the bottom-right corner. Tap on it and proceed installing.
Note: if play protect pops up saying it blocked the install, don’t press OK!, pressing it will abort the installation and you’ll have to patch again. Just click on whatever will let you proceed with the installation like in the photo below
(but not on OK!). Like this: https://i.imgur.com/S05hvvK.png
And you are done. Good job.
Troubleshooting:
Video stops after some time:
Try repatching [repeat step 4] and selecting the Client spoof patch and/or Spoof Signature version patch, some users say this solves the problem.
Background play is not available / video stops when I close the screen:
You didn’t select the Minimized playback patch or the settings for background play is disabled.
ReVanced crashes when I open the app:
You might want to repatch using spoof signature patch.
