The debate of Stelena and Delena would never end. These two wonderful couples have a lot to give. While their love triangle kept viewers amused for several seasons, each of these ships provided Elena with many fond memories. Damon Salvatore ultimately succeeded in winning the girl, but the story wasn't that straightforward. Elena struggled greatly with her decision because she had deep feelings for both of the brothers. She might be madly in love with Stefan one moment and raging with desire for Damon the next.
Many fans think Stelena's inability to work out is a result of Stefan not providing Elena with the passion, danger, and excitement that Damon did. Stefan was too protective of Elena and was always trying to keep her safe, disobeying her decisions and desires in the process. While Damon didn't criticise Elena when she turned into a vampire, he did enable Elena to express herself freely. While Stefan struggled to accept the new vampire because he was in love with the kind and sympathetic Elena, this spoke to Elena's inner conscience.
Since Stefan appealed to Elena because of his noble character and morality, he may very well symbolise Elena's decent, moral side. Damon, on the other hand, drew her in because of his allure and the forbidden temptation he offered. Damon may stand in for Elena's passionate darkness. He also allowed Elena to explore her own darkness without passing judgement on her and gave her a method to avoid feeling guilty. Although many people consider Elena to be a selfish girl, Damon never thought that way. Additionally, he encouraged Elena to prioritise her own needs over those of others. Elena Salvatore's desires came first to Stefan Salvatore. When she chose Damon, he gladly stepped back even though it did hurt him bad, but he accepted it.
The two had excellent communication when it came to Stelena. They continued to be close friends and show concern even after they split up. The last episode's interaction between Elena and Stefan amply illustrates this. Elena has always appreciated Stefan's honesty and has tremendous admiration for his genuine expression.
