Hey! I'm Val Wangler, parent to two awesome children in GMCS schools. I've been SO impressed with the amazing teachers that serve our District. Public education matters.
Our students and teachers matter. I'd like to use my experience building resources for our community to make GMCS schools a better place for students and teachers.
Here's a little about me: my mom was a public middle school science and high school biology teacher and the importance of education was always forefront in our house. Somewhere along the way I decided to pursue medicine (maybe all of that science talk at home!) and eventually found my way to McKinley County.
I moved to the County in 2010, first taking a job with Zuni IHS, meeting my partner and starting our family there. I then transitioned to Gallup where I served as Chief Medical Officer at RMCH during the early days of the COVID pandemic.
In 2022, a few motivated community members and I started Gallup Community Health, which grew quickly, and now we serve more than 13,000 patient community members in a thriving primary care clinic.
Through this, I learned how to run a large organization the right way - one people want to be a part of. I learned how to advocate for patients and those that need an extra hand. I learned to build high quality programs right here at home.
And, as a mom, nothing is as important to me as making sure my children, and all children in our community, are able to thrive.
I will use this experience and dedication to help build a better GMCS - for your children and mine - and for the teachers working so hard every day to educate them. To do that, I need your help - and your vote.
