I am a geomorphologist and geoarchaeologist at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN USA. My focus is on the study of soils for palaeoenvironmental and palaeoecological information related to humans and society, and has focused on the serir & hamadah surrounding cataracts in the Nile River in Sudan during the African Humid Period. At a broader scale I study soils across landscape contexts and their erosion and subsequent sediment generation within watersheds. Since 2018 I've focused my research on the effects of wetland drainage on the soils of freshwater mineral soil wetlands, specifically the former Grand Kankakee Marsh. This work involves study of soil carbon and land use dynamics across a range of spatial scales with the aim of understanding soil carbon-wetland-atmosphere feedbacks. Feel free to look over my CV with a full listing of my experiences and research here.Â
In general I enjoy being outdoors when it is warm and love running, hiking, cycling, kayaking, and backpacking. And tacos. Definitely tacos.
