I decided at that moment to set a new resolution to minimize our possessions. I determined to remove one item each day for the next 365 days. I started with three items to make up for the missed days, and promptly began removing one thing a day for the rest of the year. I am happy to say I not only completed my resolution successfully but it was so simple and satisfying that I continued uncluttering in my slow and steady pace (an average of five items per week) for an additional two years!

Over these last three years of clearing clutter, I have removed over a thousand things from our home. Also, through the process and through my writing, I have had the opportunity to help many people realize their own goals as well. These conversations have sharpened my desire for simplicity and taught me important insight about uncluttering. I have learned that understanding just a few key principles can help anyone just learning how to declutter.

I installed a command called unclutter that hides the mouse pointer after a certain interval of being motionless. I want to autorun it so that after 10 seconds the pointer is hidden, but it already autoruns and is set to hide the cursor every 3 seconds. I can't find out where unclutter is that lets it autorun. It isn't in .bashrc, .autorun.sh (I may have made that file myself; not sure if it's Linux standard), or the GUI autorun thing that looks like this.

As an AmE speaker, 'uncluttered' seems to me to be the canonical adjective; 'decluttered' sounds a little strange, like someone couldn't remember the usual word and picked a (very reasonable) prefix out of many reasonable ones. A verb to result in that situation (of actively removing a mess) would naturally be 'unclutter', but 'declutter' also sounds like it should work.

Just because everyone uses it doesn't mean it's the standard usage. In informal speech or writing 'declutter' is fine, but in formal usage, the longer history of 'unclutter' seems to favor it.

Talk slanted off to the general problem of the records. The expert's plan to set up a separate "dead" file, to help unclutter the present broken-down system, proved pleasing to the sales manager who confessed that as the files were now, he was frequently guilty of "holding out" on them. 'T was n't right, but what was a man to do?

I am automatically hiding the cursor with unclutter -idle 3 in my bspwmrc. But I want the cursor to show again ever time I focus a different window with the keyboard. (This would provide a little more visual feedback as to which window focus was moved to).

bspwm has a setting that makes the cursor move to the newly focused window anytime you change focus with the keyboard. This setting is enabled for me, but it doesn't make a difference visually because the cursor is almost always hidden. Ideally, I would like to modify the keybindings I have to change focus so that they unhide the cursor before (or immediately after) changing focus, then three seconds later, unclutter would hide it again.

One solution to unclutter the interface is to show the second photo field only once a user has already taken a photo. And after the user took the second photo, the third photo field becomes available... etc etc...

There are two known workarounds for this. You can either add SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 to your environment variables which does not work for all games or run unclutter with-grab option. However, it is important to note that the grab option may cause some applications such as gksu to not work properly.

Unclutter is a tool from the early 90s and has not been updated since. It works by creating fake windows or active pointer grabs, both of which often cause problems. By now, the X11 extensions Xinput2 and Xfixes have been released and are commonly found on most user systems. Using those, unclutter-xfixes-gitAUR can provide the cursor hiding functionality without interfering with any application.

xbanish is another tool similar to unclutter, but works in a different way. Instead of using cursor movements, xbanish hides the cursor during typing. You can grab it on the AUR as xbanishAUR or xbanish-gitAUR.

I am currently using Xmonad with unclutter. I recently installed slock but I noticed that it doesn't play nice with unclutter. When locking, the screen will automatically unlock after a few seconds. Removing unclutter resolves the problem. I very much like both software and would like to use them in conjunction.

I've looked into the issue further and apparently the -grab option is the culprit. However I can't simply remove it because of a bug where xmonad would get stuck focusing on a single window, see this .

I have tried xmonad-utils as suggested in the mailing list but the cursor capture utility (hhp) is incompatible with slock, and the provided one (hslock) accepts any key combination to unlock and raises the error: "No user entry".

@jasonwryan: How have you managed to resolve the focus issue with xmonad? Or have you not experienced that problem?

@dice: What arguments are you passing to unclutter? Also what screen locking program are you using? I might have to use that in the end.

Anyway I have resorted to using Xscreensaver as a last resort (it's too bloated for my taste but whatever), it's the only one that works with unclutter -grab without issues. I'm leaving this thread open in case anyone has more ideas.

I've found the reason why slock is failing(and thats probably the reason for sflock ans sxlock too as they're forks of slock):

slock immediately unlocks the screen if it is unable to grab the mouse pointer. unclutter with grab option already grabs it. Therefore slock can't grab it.

I keep reading about unclutter program to hide the mouse pointer, but it doesn't totally hide the mouse pointer. As long as you don't touch the screen or move the mouse, the mouse pointer is hidden by the unclutter program, but when you do it shows the pointer. At least that's what I read.

Greetings! Can someone let me know how I can install this application? Serves to automatically hide the mouse cursor after a certain time, and its usability is via the terminal. I tried using the sudo dnf install unclutter command, but it points out errors.

Lord, help me now to unclutter my life,

to organize myself in the direction of simplicity.

Lord, teach me to listen to my heart;

teach me to welcome change instead of fearing it.

Lord, I give You these stirrings within me,

I give You my discontent,

I give You my restlessness,

I give You my doubt,

I give You my despair,

I give You all the longings I hold inside.

Help me to listen to these signs of change, of growth;

to listen seriously and to follow where they lead

through the breathtaking space of an open door. Amen.

Hi guys! Even correctly executing the functionalities of this application, according to its manual (man unclutter), I noticed that in many situations the mouse cursor is not hidden, for example when it is over some launcher icon, when it is over any part of the firefox window. Also, it does not start with the system. I saw a post related to him, but involving a different situation. I installed it through the application manager.

This is fantastic. I have made chicken stock in the slow cooker before to then put in chicken soup, but unlike the detail in your title, it was not at all uncluttered. And as you mentioned in a comment, the meat was way overcooked, even compared to making stock on the stove. This is perfect timing to try for the winter, when I find myself craving chicken soup at least once a week. Thanks!

unclutter hides your X mouse cursor when you don't need it, to prevent itfrom getting in the way. You have only to move the mouse to restore themouse cursor. This is the original unclutter implementation from the 90s whichworks well with classic X11 programs. For a more modernimplementation which works better with some more modern applicationsand UI libraries, see unclutter-xfixes. What is your soul telling you? Take time to be still and listen. Your relationship with Jesus, and your willingness to take responsibility to pursue the freedom He offers will determine your ability to drop the chains and unclutter your soul. Know your Savior, know yourself, and together you can overcome the clutter in your soul and live an abundant, freedom-filled life!

The gentle purifying of your soul forms the foundation for the uncluttering. We can simplify our homes and wardrobes all we like (I am not saying these are unimportant) and never achieve the peace we are looking for. Tenderly pursuing the renewing of our minds by the power of the Holy Spirit is refreshing.

To unclutter means not having or being impeded by too many objects, details, or elements. The first thing we need to unclutter is our mind. Then move on to the will, emotions, and reason all of which contribute to the well-being of the soul. A peaceful soul is achieved by removing impediments, for example, sinful behavior, untrue thoughts, fears, and purposeless busyness, and replacing them with the goodness of God.

Imagine the Unclutter Notes as sticky notes. It lets you write quick excerpts, to-do lists, reminders, or full-length articles if you will. Just move your mouse upward, call upon unclutter, tap plus, and start writing. be457b7860
