Class time

1st hour / 8:45 AM – 9:25 AM

2nd hour / 9:35 AM – 10:20 AM

3rd hour / 10:35 AM – 11:20 AM

4th hour / 11:30 AM – 12: 15 PM

Introductory Class

Age: 5 years old and up

Program period: 1 ~2 years

To learn in the Introductory Class

  • Read and write hiragana and katakana.

  • Count from 1 to 30 in Japanese.

  • Answer the question "What is this?"

  • Use greeting words in everyday life and introduce oneself (name and age).

  • Write their own name, understand the teacher's instructions answering with a "yes" or "no", etc.

  • Participate in Japanese cultural events to deepen their understanding.

Elementary School Classes

Age: 6 years old and up

Program Period: 6 years

To learn in Elementary School Classes:

  • Read and write all hiragana and katakana.

  • Study 440 Japanese Kanji characters to be learned by the end of 3rd grade in Japanese elementary schools.

  • Reading comprehension in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade level in Japanese elementary schools

  • Learn to write who, what, where, when, why, and how.

  • Learn basic grammar and vocabulary.

  • Practice reading stories aloud and have simple everyday conversations.

  • Be able to make speech presentation.

  • Participate in Japanese cultural events to deepen their understanding.

Middle School Classes


Program period: 3 years

To learn in Middle School Classes:

  • Review Japanese Kanji characters up to the 3rd grade level and study about 200 characters to be learned in the 4th grade in Japanese elementary schools.

  • Reading comprehension at a Japanese 4th grade level.

  • Be able to talk and write about oneself, one's family and school.

  • Learn beginning and intermediate level grammar and vocabulary.

  • Study Japanese common proverbs and idioms.

  • Learn the difference between spoken and written language.

  • Learn about Japanese culture through songs, cartoons, letters, etc.

  • Convey one's thoughts and opinions through conversation and speech.

  • Participate in Japanese cultural events to deepen their understanding.

High School Classes

Program period: 3 years

To learn in High School Classes:

  • Review Japanese Kanji characters up to the 4th grade level and study about 300 characters to be learned from 5th to 6th grade in Japanese elementary schools.

  • Reading comprehension at the 5th to 6th grade level of Japanese elementary school.

  • Study grammar and vocabulary at the intermediate and advanced levels.

  • Study Japanese proverbs, idioms, four Kanji character words and honorific expressions.

  • Study onomatopoeias and mimetic words.

  • Study haiku and tanka poetry.

  • Learn how to express in one’s own words about the importance of war and peace, the spiritual value of Zen, environmental protection, and volunteerism, etc.

  • Practice writing practical sentences.

  • Be able to have complex conversations in a more natural way.

  • Participate in Japanese cultural events to deepen their understanding.


High school classes are accepted as foreign language credits in some high schools. If you want to earn credits, please complete the required attendance days and take the credit test. The result is sent from Kyodo System to the high school. (Because the system varies depending on the school district, please be sure to consult with the high school counselor.)


BJ Classes

(Basic Japanese Class)

Target grade: Junior high school and high school students

For students with little to no background in Japanese and who are either learning Japanese for the first time or have little to no previous experience in Japanese.

To learn in BJ Classes:

  • Learn how to read and write hiragana, katakana, and simple kanji, count numbers, and also learn basic grammar and vocabulary. We will do our best to accommodate each student's level from introductory to intermediate to advanced levels.

  • Be able to have simple daily conversation and understand the teacher's instructions.

  • Be able to write short sentences using the words you have learned.

  • Participate in Japanese cultural events to deepen their understanding.
