Resource Match
Students
Student 1- F.R.
F.R. is a student who started the 2nd grade at Valley View this year. F.R. has recently been adopted by his foster parents, and has 3 other siblings that attend this school. F.R. has issues with behavior and is currently struggling with academics in general. F.R. meets with the school counselor weekly and has been recommended to receive an individual education plan (IEP). The initial IEP process has just started for F.R and it will be October before it is decided if this student will need the support provided to IEP students.
F.R.'s family would benefit from services such as Take the Rein Counseling center. If issues like trauma are linked to the academic performance as well as the behavioral issues, it would benefit the student to seek out individual or family counseling. F.R. does meet with the counselor at school but it may be beneficial to branch outside of the school due to hours, availability, and the workload of the school counselor. Although the school counselor does meet with this student and does facilitate family counseling, it may benefit the family and the student to branch out and use the community services.
Student 2 - M.A.
M.A. lives on a ranch close to the school, where the father has worked for the last two years. M.A.'s family are a Spanish speaking family who immigrated from Mexico in the last five years. In this household, the only English speaking members are M.A. who is 7 and an older sister who is 9. The older sister also attends Valley View Elementary School.
M.A.'s family would benefit from the Perris Valley Family Resource Center. This resource center provides bilingual support as well as support for developing literacy. The parents are very active in M.A.'s education and have the desire to learn English according to a conversation that was facilitated during a back to school night. While the family works towards this, resources like the Perris Valley Family Resource Center could provide much needed support.
