Valhalla's Brotherhood Campfire Ashes
The Brotherhood Campfire Ashes ritual carries a spirit of unity that has burned for over a century. It began in 1907 on Brownsea Island, England, at the very first Scout Camp. Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the father of Scouting, gathered the ashes from that inaugural fire and shared them with his fellow scouts and leaders.
Throughout his global travels, Baden-Powell carried these ashes, adding them to new campfires and collecting the mixed remains to carry forward. This simple act created an unbroken physical and symbolic bond between generations of brothers around the world.
The Valhalla’s Mission Force continues this sacred tradition. Our ashes originate from those historical fires, passed down through "brothers in service" across the globe.
When we gather, we retell the story of the ashes to honor those who came before us. Toward the end of the night, the historical ashes are added to the fire. Once the embers have cooled, the ashes are stirred and new samples are collected—mixing the spirit of our current gathering with the heritage of the past century.
We invite all Friends of Valhalla’s Mission Force to carry a piece of this history.
Carry the Flame: Use these ashes during your own travels and campfire ceremonies.
Grow the Legacy: After your fire, we request that you return a small sample of your new ashes along with your story.
By participating, you increase the reach and impact of the Valhalla tradition, weaving your own journey into a story that began in 1907.
Strength and Honor to all. Please mail a small bag of your combined ashes to: Valhalla's Mission Force 21615 Murphy Road Peyton, CO 80831
