Hello!
My name is Valerie Stiles, and I am so excited to be here at Woodfin this year as the 4th grade teacher.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Special Education from Mars Hill University in 2010, my master’s degree in Special Education from Western Carolina University in 2015, and most recently completed my Principal Post-Master’s Add-On at Appalachian State University in 2025. I hold licenses in Special Education (general curriculum and adaptive), Elementary Education, Middle Grades Math and English, and High School English. Teaching has been my passion since I first stepped into the classroom in 2006, right out of high school.
I was born in Asheville and raised in Yancey County. Outside of school, I serve my community as a firefighter, wildland firefighter, and AEMT. I am married to the love of my life, and together we raise our four children. We enjoy camping, fishing, and spending time as a family on our farm, where we are beginning the adventure of raising animals and living off the land.
I believe deeply in the power of education and in creating opportunities for all children, because they truly are our future. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth with my students here at Woodfin!
