Jose Martin Roca
PhD student (cosupervised with Dr.Martinez Pedrero)
I'm a PHD student at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. In my thesis I study molecular dynamic systems, as water-glycerol mixture and water coarse-grained model; and out-of-equilibrium system simulations, as active brownian particles, polymers and colloids. Recently I started to work in some experiments with driven magnetic colloids."
"One of my biggest hobbies is science (of course), but also I like to see films and shows, go out with my friends (respecting the sanitarial restrictions, for sure), take beer and talk with new people to find new and different points of view
Juan Pablo Miranda
PhD student (cosupervised with Dr.Levis)
I'm currently working with the group while I look forward to start my PhD (hopefully, this September 2021). I am interested in Computer Simulations and Active Matter, currently working in Active Polymers under confinement. My other Interests are Statistical Mechanics, Soft Matter, Physics of Information and High Performance Computation. Also I am very interested in computer programming and finding ways to speed up my work.
To Know a little more about me: I earned my BSc degree in Physics and my MSc in Theoretical Physics here at Complutense University of Madrid. When I'm not working I like to go to the cinema, watch series or hanging out with my friends.
Carlos Miguel Barriuso
PhD student (cosupervised with Prof.Pagonabarraga)
Tireless transdisciplinary explorer. Main interests: Complex systems and active matter. Coding. Simulation. Foundations of Quantum Mechanics. Epistemology and Consciousness. Electronics. Music and sound, Drums, Synthesizers.

Alberto Zaragoza
Former PhD student, graduated in 2019, cosupervised with Dr.Benavides and Dr.Gonzalez
My research field is condensed matter. From ice nucleation at different conditions to diffusion under confinement, I have worked on several projects related to water. Some examples are heterogeneous bubbles nucleation, anomalies of supercooled salty water or dynamics of ions inside carbon nanotubes. I am currently working on water harvesting in Metalorganic frameworks, developing a coarse grained model for this materials that can reproduce the experimental results as well as explain the adsorption/desorption mechanisms.
Pablo Rosales
Former Phd student, graduated in 2020, cosupervised with Prof.Vega and Prof. Sanz
I am Pablo and I performed my PhD with Chantal from 2016 to 2020. In this work we investigated different phase transitions (such as liquid-to-vapor, liquid-to-solid and vapor-to-liquid) of simple models using computer simulations. We developed several ways to calculate meaningful magnitudes related to those phase transitions with very low computational cost. Currently I am teaching the young generations the beauty of math, physics and chemistry.
Miguel Angel Gonzalez
Former PhD student, graduated in 2014, cosupervised with Prof.Abascal
Francisco Alarcon
Former Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellow
Francisco is now Professor at the University of Guanajuato (Mexico)
Francisco is now Professor at the University of Guanajuato (Mexico)
Emanuele Locatelli
Marie Curie Fellow
My research interests are self-assembly in equilibrium, polymer and biopolymer physics, and active matter. In collaboration with Chantal, I am studying the hydrodynamics of active polymers, their properties under confinement and the modelisation of active worms and biofilms; I also won with Prof. Valeriani an MSCA-IF grant on these topics. Currently, I am a post-doctoral fellow at the Technical University of Vienna and, from May 2021, a Rita Levi-Montalcini fellow at the University of Padova."
Pablo Montero
Former Master student
Pablo Montero de Hijes received his BSc in Physics (2016) and MSc in Chemistry (2017) from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). During that period, he could benefit from an Erasmus exchange (2014-2015) at Lunds Universitet (Sweden) and he also engaged in two interships both in the aerospace industry (AIRBUS) and on teaching at secondary level. In his bachelor’s project, he was introduced to molecular simulations of glasses by his supervisors C Valeriani and E Sanz. After that, he joined Gerhard Gompper’s group for a summer-project on simulations of microswimmers and then he continued learning about glasses from molecular simulations during his master’s project again with E Sanz and C Valeriani. He is now in the last stage of his PhD in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) which has been supervised by C Vega and E Sanz. There, he has focused on kinetics and thermodynamics of phase transitions and he has already published nine papers covering glass devitrification, supercooled water, nucleation, and ice growth. 03/12/2021
